IA here

Surrounding areas - no go for chickens, but IN Des Moines you can have up to 30 poultry or small animals (ducks, chickens, quail, rabbits, farrets, etc) but no more than two different breeds, i.e. rabbits and chickens. You have to keep the coop more than 25 feet from anyones "dwelling" and they have to be kept within the national standards of square footage per animal. They are supposed to be in a covered run but mine are just fenced in. Oh and you have to make sure they don't smell and keep the noise down. I had animal control out here 3 times last year with 30 chickens and 4 ducks (yes over the limit at the time) and they did nothing. I just had a busy body neighbor who thought no one should do anything outside her norm.
I will see if I can find the actual ordinances for you.

You moving to Des Moines? It would be nice to have more chicken people from this forum here!

I am waiting by the mail box... patiently. It's getting cooler at night and the pigeons are starting to sit on my head. Had to move my chair twice so the neighbor could mow but thats okay....
Don't worry about me me, I'll be fine. A little pneumonia is okay. I'll recover... eventually........................ Ho Hum........... Haven't seen my children in a few days but thats okay, by now I'm sure they have forgotten who I am. Ho hum.... Big sigh.............. I wave at the chickens once in awhile. mmmmmmm.

Feeling a little lonely Eric??? Your mail will go out tomorrow! Wow I am surprised you are still dealing with the pneumonia!

Don't let the pigeons poop on you...

Was just kidding about the pneumonia (sp). I was trying to intimate that I was waiting for something from you in the mail!
Have you gotten your payback from the fair yet? I wonder when they do that?
Should we have picked it up?

Thanks for the info. No not moving to Des Moines but my daughter lives up there now and I was just curious. I am frequently in Des Moines for work but live about 45 minutes out.

I'm not sure how the payout from the fair works for chickens. I went again on Sunday with a friend and the woodcarvers were picking up their stuff and they all had envelopes with prize money. I wonder if it depends on who sponsers the event?

BTW: Mike set Charming free in the yard with the others

He was watching him run around though and said - "He sure is pretty - you done good"

Hi everyone, I'm in Nevada IA. I'm sending out a distress signal here! I have spent a lot of money and ordered eggs online twice now and between the post office x-raying the eggs and them just not developing to hatch like all of my other eggs I have to abandon ordering eggs because it is just to risky for the little gems that they are. Any Hatcheries that have these birds are sold out and any breeders I have located, don't respond to emails.... I will drive pretty far for straight run chicks up to old laying hens at this point..... if it's light sussex, I want it! Please, if anyone has or knows of anyone who has Light Sussex Chickens, please let me know. I'm heartbroken that all of my efforts to raise some of these beautiful birds have failed.

If you have any, please let me know your location and how much you would charge, for whatever it is you have. Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers!

LOL! Was anyone able to catch the little scoundrel before he started wooing the girls or fighting with the other boys? And how is P liking him now? How's Amber like him?

P avoids him and hangs with Tank but I do have a young showgirlX d'uccle cross that he has been trying to woo. Charming is too afraid of Tank to get near the other hens.

Let's see: Charming about 1 lb and Tank maybe 10 lbs? Don't know why he hangs back. If he only knew what a wuss Tank is and how unbalanced. He could probably hop on his back and ride him like a bronco until he wore out
