The one Brahma that had mites or whatever, we don't really even know what they were died :\\ but just tonight we now have some dust to use on them.

and they will go into the bator on Friday with my Australorp egg.

I went out and cleaned out about 1/2 the hay in the coop. So I have been lax on cleaning off their "poop board" this last week or so. Ummm not even a chisel and hammer could get all the frozen poop off this time. I was outside for over an hour cleaning the coop. I was going to just take the board out for now but the frizzle cochins, silkies and some of the younger birds all huddle under it for warmth at night. It is like their own little cave. I was sitting on the floor of the coop (my back was hurting by then) scraping frozen hay off the floor and I realized temperature wise it wasn't too bad in there. I can't figure out why the hay seems damp. I do not put their water in there, just food.

They were so excited to have a huge pile of new hay that they started tossing it out the door immediately. Actually several of them were burrowing into it.

I moved the silver seabright into the garage. Her breathing sounds rattley but she acts fine. She figured out real quick where the heat lamp was and stood under it.

Must go get some tylan tommorow. The only store that sells it is about 1/2 hour away from me.

Too bad about the bird and your nail but glad the girls are feeling at home now.

I have been giving my birds some Terramycin soluble in their water, just to make sure they don't get a lung infection. Your frozen hay may be from condensation in the coop Steph. Warm-cold, etc.

The vet from Iowa State said to specifically give them Tylan in my case. I sure hope my car starts tomorrow in the stupid cold. It has a new battery but the car is getting up there in years and miles.

I got a reply on my ad for the puppies today. The lady is interested in the other girl puppy - someone else has already agreed to purchase the other girl -

Anywho, she wanted to know if I would drive to meet her coming from SW MN. I said nope. My poor car is usually dependable but is starting to have piddly things go wrong with it, plus the price of gas is getting outrageous.

We will see if she is still interested. I had a person come down from northern Illlinois to purchase a puppy last time (they ended up buying two)

And WHAT is with everyone wanting the female dogs? I prefer my male dogs to my females any day of the week.

Females can be used as breeders and, they are more docile, and less likely to take off exploring or run away.

ETA: Typically that is.
SW MN is just 8 miles from us.
Spencer 12 mi. South is -15 we are -9? Doesn't seem right.

Current conditions say -17 F in Luzerne right now. Oddly it doesn't feel that much colder than 0

My chicken water heaters aren't keeping up so well. I have those heated bases. They should be OK though, most of them prefer to drink out of the cat bowls anyway. I broke down and gave the IA Blues back their heat lamp a few days ago, but they don't care. They are perky as ever and prefer to sleep on the hay or roost on the pipe gates. Tough little birdies! Gave em nest boxes too!

I ordered from Sandhill for the first time last year. I was pleased w/the chicks and the service. They didn't have enough chicks to cover my order so gave me a credit toward another order for this year.
