Yes, my older roo has more of a brass color than silver on his saddle feathers. Just a little different than the silver on his hackles. Is anyone else seeing a lot of yellow/green on shanks and feet? I believe they are supposed to be slate, but I only have a few that are slate all the way down the toes. My plan is to focus on two lines - one to get the pullets with better silver on the heads and penciling. I believe I'll need roosters with heavy silvering on the breast/body to do that. The other to maintain/improve the rooster coloring.

going to inspect the roo's legs/feet. I am thinking they have some yellow or green on the bottom of them. BRB

They are slate with yellow bottoms. He didn't care for me inspecting his feet other - Lost some cool points with the girls apparently.

How'd your daughter do getting to the MOA?

Steph, i got a new shirt to wear in the Keys. It's really light limey green. Looks like a maragarita with buttons!

And... chicken lady said she'd love to meet with us in Islamorada! Eggs, certificate and everything! Wonder if I can get those on the plane as carry-on? Maybe with the certificate... hmmm... have to ask while I am being embarrassingly strip searched.

No - no red bleeding on these guys for me. It is more like the "mossiness" you hear talked about in BC Marans.

I've had cochins bleed through and I would recognize that

I also had this cute little tiny EE roo that has very red shoulders.

This is more like a penciling in the totally wrong color on just some of their feathers.

Eric - I am ignoring all posts about Florida...

On that note - haven't heard from the daughter yet. She got a late start because she had to get extra special permission to take the rental car because she isn't 21 until July. She would have gone straight into work. I will call her cell later. I am sure she is fine.

NOW on that note I am going to go attempt to go get my son from work in her Scion. It's not too bad down here. Yet.

So I'm trying to transition to a bucket waterer with nipples on the bottom. Yesterday was the first day with it and I was please to see the BR pullets working on it last night. I wasn't sure if they would pick it up since they weren't raised with them. I think it just might work! They still have the galvanized waterer and of course the cat bowl, but I needed to get another one going so I would have a waterer for the breeder pens my DH and I built last weekend.

I'm getting ready to transition my flock to all Ameraucana roos instead of the EE roos. I'll miss my Apollo, but that's not the direction I want to go. I've got the EE roos, Apollo and Thor, with the main flock and the 4 Wellie girls separated with Lightning, the white Ameraucana roo. I'll wait a couple of weeks and try to hatch out a bunch of eggs from Apollo and Thor before they go bye bye. That should keep me occupied while I'm waiting for the IA Blues to get going
