Did anyone listen to WHO 1040? My mom just called me at work about some guy trying to buy chickens at Shopper's Supply and they wanted him to register or something? She was trying to tell me about it but I couldn't understand what she was saying. Thought maybe someone else might know what it was about.

What part of IA are you in? I have 5 white silkies that are about 2.5-3.5 months old right now. They are out of exhibition birds, but aren't making the cut for the growout pen for various reasons. If I don't sell them at the New Ulm swap on the 31st, I'll bring them along to Waverly. $10 each and sex not guaranteed at this point yet. I have more batches hatching too and any PQ culls will be dirt cheap before I start putting too much feed into them. I live in southwestern MN...

Hey Eric.... I am just getting my first faverolle chicks out of the shell too now. I think you need a few of those too if you meander up for the next New Ulm swap.

Another question. I emailed the iowa poultry assoc. to find out if there are any rules regarding selling eggs and chickens (both live and dead). I want to put a sign out for fresh eggs and eventually sell chickens and possibly butchered chickes. But they haven't gotten back to me. It's been a week. I was wondering if any of you know any of the rules. Or doesn't it matter if you're not a business?

There are rules but I'm not sure what they are. I don't sell butchered birds or eggs commercially, just eggs to people I know. I haven't sold live birds to anyone out of state either. I think as long as you meet the testing requirements you can sell at auctions or swaps without too much trouble. There are a lot of rules for selling meat though, especially if you butcher your own.
