IA (incubators anonymous) September Hatches?

Shamo....I just didn't want anyone else on the thread or someone who stops by to get confused, most of us are still newbies at hatching. I wasn't trying to be nasty at all, if it came across that way I apologize. Did your hen ever go broody @Shamo Hybrid ?
Nope, doesn't show any signs of going broody but I got another Oriental Fowl hen and she's laying eggs too..... soo many happy eggs, woo-hoo! I've already got some brewing in the home incubator so we will see how that goes, I candled them and they did show signs of life! But I've got them all staggered because you can't just wait over 20 days for all eggs to deposit and then 'set' them because the first few eggs won't be as fertile and my original hen is up to 17 eggs now I think and possibly more while my newly acquired hen has laid a few already. I'm not counting my eggs before they hatch but they are gonna be soo awesome, I wonder what kind of coloring they will have...... :wee

That's exciting! What do your adults look like? Did you have any trouble introducing the new one? I love Game breeds but OEGB is as far as I'm dabbling in until the kids get older.

Well I was sure the other two eggs in my incubator had died, as two slowed down and then stopped moving after we had two power cuts, both my shitty landlords fault... First he didnt pay the power bill after us tenants paid him, and the power co disconnected the power, then a few days later, the power company cut the power to do lines work, and despite me having asked said shitty landlord to let me know if there was eve going to be any chance of a power cut because I had ducklings incubting, he didnt bother telling me about the lette the power co sent him saying they were going to cut the power. Id actually arranged an invertor after the first day without power, but the second time didnt realise the power was off for a few hrs and by then the eggs were half cold...

Two of the 4 eggs were very sluggish after the first power cut, and a day after the second, 3 days before the remaining two hatched, these two stopped moving. I candled many times and no sign whatsoever of life.

Finally 2 days after the first two hatched, when I was sure the other two wer long gone, I saw very weak movement in one egg. It was breech, and not pipped at all that i could tell and barely moving. But it was also overdue and I felt certain it was never going to find its own way out of tha egg, so even though I knew that opening the egg up when it hadnt even internally pipped would mst likely kill it I decided I may as well as it had no chance otherwise anyway.
I didnt expect it to make it, but two days later I had a duckling. Very weak, barely alive, and I was certain at one point, neurologically damaged.
I lost count of how many times I was certain Nes (hebrew for miracle) would not survive. A day after hatching, Nes couldnt open his/her eyes, sit up, or even lie down, didnt peep, hardly moved, and looked almost dead.

I finally let Nes cuddle in bed with me which I don't do, due to worrying about squaahing them, and also concerns a small duckling still needing well over 30 deg celcius, will fall off my boobies lol, away from my skin and body heat and get too cold. However I eventually let Nes cuddle to me when he/she was getting distressed in the incubator and too cold on heat pad under "Lady Gaga Duck" (soft toy duck with broody wings) with siblings.
Nes was basically one breath away from dead when I took him or her to bed, but started to improve from then on, even when sitting on the sheets away from my body heat. I firmly believe that it was the human contact that turned Nes around.

Ive always cuddled wild rescued mallards Ive raised, even though people say dont because they will get too accustomed to humans. All of the ones Ive raised have a healthy fear of all humans except me, and this experience with Nes confirms my belief that ducks and ducklings, as social creatures, NEED comfort, and to know someone else is there with them when they are struggling, and that without this, some that might be saved will give up and die.

Anyway after days getting Nes out, and ctain Ness would not make it and in the very slim event Nes survived, Id have a neuro duckling who would need constant care for life... i now have this adventerous little creature...

See attached youtube video I took earlier tonight. Nes is the smallest one, who keeps losing his or her footing...

Oh, this is not incubator ducklings, but newly hatched and cute so I hope no one minds... Yesterday one of my wild ducks ducklings hatched out 14 cuties...14 for 14. And I got this photo.

Pretty sure mummy duck is one of the ducklings that some of my wild ducks hatched, then waddled up to my place with last spring. This year I knew they would do the same, they know a mug when they see one, so I decided if I could convince any of the mallards to nest at my place they could pitch in by taking a few domestic eggs as well as a few of their own.
Mallards are usually awesome mums, and so far going by her hatch rate, shes living up to that.
I moved Mum and bubs into a run with a light for heat this afternoon, as with 14 little ones, half of who ar domestic and are going to get big fast, she wont be fitting them under her wings for long!

I think at least one of the ducklings is from a magpie egg. She had some larger pale green eggs I thought were from Heidi, a surprise mallard domestic hybrid who hatched last year, but at least one must have been from Prudence the one magpie I have. i have been trying to get a cute splotchy colored duckling from one of Prus eggs, but so far all hatched have taken after their fathers. So it was nice to see this one today:

The possible magpie x is the one in the rear with the yellow head.

So that is just a wild duck that you snuck your own eggs under? Will that duck stick around your place or will it wander off out into the wild after hatching her eggs?

Large Fowl eggs are on LD! I don't think any of the bantam eggs made it. I'm really not sure what happened with them. None of them internally pipped, but I didn't see movement in a single one when I checked them this morning. So sad. I left them in the incubator just in case. Waiting until they start internally pipping to up the humidity worked really well for me last hatch, that's what I'm planning to do this round too.
