When I was on "kid" message boards and someone had a new baby we used to say "They make my uterus hurt". I don't know what the equivalent would be here? That picture makes my brooder hurt?

AW I am so thrilled for you SUZ............. like prissy.it never fails to amaze me !

We lost one. It pipped through the shell and had its beak sticking out, but we saw that the membrane was really dry so we took it out to help it and it didn't move. We started to peel back to shell to see if we could save it but it was too late. She is gone.

Remember that sometimes the part of the membrane that you can see may look white and dried out, but that the membrane inside that you can't see will still be fine. You may be working against yourself by opening the incubator to help. I know it's hard, but the best thing you can do is just leave the lid on.

Well, I lost one maybe more too, but I really think it's because I opened the bator too much. I had ones hatch early, and they were bowling the eggs around, but I left them in. Finally, after many hours, I took them out. I really needed too. But then I snuck it open to yank out a bunch of shells (I probably didn't need to do that) then I snuck it open to turn an egg around (probably didn't need to do that either) There are times that you have to open the bator, but there are times you don't. I think what I learned from my first hatch, and the loss of one that had been zipping is, to be more careful about what is a real need to open and what is not.

live and learn I guess. And I'll still make mistakes.
