We have one little baby chick that we arent sure is going to make it... she isnt moving at all except for gasping every once in a while and breathing. She also has a fluid bubble type thing on her chest. Is that normal? Do you guys think she will make it?
edited to add: This is a second chick, not the one in the pics. She is still attched to the egg by her umbilical (sp) cord. Is there any way to remedy this??

That cord will dry up and detach itself, most likely. They usually do. Just let her rest. Sounds like she had a tough time getting out. Dont know about that fluid bubble-never saw that.

She is doing much better... flopping around chirping some and the fluid bubble is decreasing slightly. She is still dragging her shell behind her though... how long should it take to dry up and fall off??
The only thing I can think about that bubble is... when she hatched she was just laying there for quite some time. She happened to be right on top of a water trough which was filled with water because we have been fighting to keep the humidity up. The wire of course is there and the shelf liner, but I think she either inhaled water or she swallowed a lot of it and her crop was FULL of water. The bubble was almost as big as her head, literally. But as I said, it is going down. I would think that if she inhaled it, she would already be dead. But if it was her crop, then it would go down like it is.... Well.. that is my theory anyway.
4 other are half way there and doing okay so if they all make it, we will have 6 total out of 13 that developed.
2 were fully formed and had been moving at some point, but they died after pipping. 1 was just black/green slime. And 4 were only partially developed, they must have died half way through.
Just saw Jody's response, both vents are open.

Well it is a little into day 23 and we have 6 chicks.
One is completly healthy thus far, is completly fluffed out and appears to be an extremely aggressive little roo. (Peekaboo)
One is in the brooder, completly fluffed out, but has crooked toes so she has a hard time walking. This is the one that mom mentioned in her last post that still had her cord on. We have named her Miracle.
One is still in the hatcher, appears to be a girl, but does not seem to be able to walk. She has been out of her shell for hours, and the others in there are flopping around like crazy, but she just tries and tries but all she is ever able to accomplish is kicking herself in the face.
One of them has just about done itself in... She/he was attached to its egg by its little cord (not the one in moms above post, that one is fine so far and all fluffed). She pushed away from and a bunch of blood started gushing out of her vent. I mean this was profuse. So i got some paper towels, lifted her out, and put her under the brooder lamp with Miracle. She is begginning to fluff, and the bleeding appears to have stopped completly, but I am not sure how much she lost in comparison to how much she had in the first place, so she is not out of the woods yet.
There are still two in the hatcher besides the one who is having trouble walking. They both seem like they are going to be just fine, and I think I will put them in the brooder around 1:30.
