Here is my favorite sweet tea recipe.

Southern Sweet Iced Tea

Ingredients

* 6 regular tea bags
* 1/8 teaspoon baking soda (takes away any bitterness)
* 2 cups boiling water
* 1 1/2-2 cups sugar (adjust to your liking)
* 6 cups cold water

Directions

1.In a large glass measuring cup, place the tea bags and add the baking soda.
2.Pour the boiling water over the tea bags.
3.Cover and steep for 15 minutes.
4.Take out the tea bags and do not squeeze them.
5.Pour the tea mixture into a 2-quart pitcher; add the sugar.
6.Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
7.Add in the cold water.
8.Let cool; chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice.

I just put some water in a sauce pan and wait for it to boil, then I put 4-5 of my favorite tea bags in and let that boil for a minute and then pour it into a pitcher or jug – add water, ice and sugar (to taste, about 1 cup for a gallon). Then we enjoy it. It is something that I grew up making and now have my DH, kids, and brother in law hooked on it.

So I made my first batch of tea, then realized I have NO sugar.

Somewhere, someone said that you can add a tiny pinch of baking soda to the hot water and it will cut the bitterness of the tea. They said that is the "secret" to the McDs sweet tea. I think it does make a difference :)

Yes, it is true!

Boil 4c water
Steep with 4 luzianne tea bags for at least 10-15 minutes
Pour concentrate into a 1 gallon pitcher
Add 1 1/4 c sugar
Add a pinch of baking soda
Fill the rest of the pitcher with ice cold water

I've had people swear it was Red Diamond tea

We use 4 of the Red Rose family size tea bags and the coffee pot with about 1 cup sugar. I'm going to try the baking soda thing in the next batch.

I love ice tea no lemon but I have not heard of the baking soda thing I will try it next batch I make. Also I use 4 family size tea bags for 2 quarts water and one cup sugar it is pretty sweet so if you want sweet tea do 2 cups per gallon.

Hope this helps!

I'm Southern through and through.
I do the baking soda thing too. It does take out the bitterness. My mom taught me to dip the handle of the spoon in water and then into the baking soda. Then you dip what sticks to the spoon down into the pot of steeping tea bags. That's how you know you put enough in there.

She likes her tea really sweet. 1 cup of sugar to 1/2 gal. I use 1 cup to a gallon. And my favorite is Luzianne. I don't really care for Lipton.
