I haven’t seen much about Icelandic chickens on here. I just hatched one and am so taken with her, my son picked the breed. We incubated a couple eggs and just one hatched, but she’s beautiful. Anyone else have icelandics?

Icelandic's are hard to come by for me. Not many around my area.
The one source I found,,, they are quite expensive. I only keep pets,, so wont dish out a lotta CA$H for them,,,, or any other breed.
Don't misunderstand me. I will pay a fair price. I don't expect something for nothing :frow
Since you are in COLD country,, you may get a laugh out of these.
These are Icelandic.

So cool!! Considering this breed for new flock. Anyone able to comment on their personality and behavior? Level of chatter/noise? Escape tendencies?
I only have the one, she’s 14 weeks old now. I had a rooster too and he’s now living at a friends house. Both seem quite quiet and very friendly, mine hops into my lap and my friend has said the roo has done the same.

Out of all the different breeds I’ve hatched this spring she might be my favourite. They are so unique looking and also so nice. She did seem stressed the last time I added new chicks in but she’s calmed down.

I read they like a lot of space and to forage, I can’t free range where I am because of so many neighbourhood dogs who just wander into the yard and have got chicks before I had a predator proof fence. So she’s confined, and I’ll stick to just her for now. But my dream is to one day have more space and fewer dogs around and get more icelandics. For now though she really doesn’t seem bothered being fenced in. She has partnered up with my bielefelder hen around the same age and they enjoy hanging out together.
