Hello all! I have a small flock of Icelandic hens and rooster. They were hatched in June 2011. Last summer, they were laying good, an egg a day from each hen. Then around September, they stopped laying and haven't started back since. I wanted this breed for their beauty and also for their winter capabilities. I was wondering if anyone has any advice?

Thank you much!

On average how much daylight are you getting? Are they free ranging or in a coop?

They are in a large coop with a very large run. As far as daylight, when they stopped laying, they were still getting 15-16 hours per day. Right now they are getting around 12 natural, and 4 artificial light. Really hoping they start laying again as I am very anxious to get some eggs in the incubator :)

Thanks!

Here's some causes (and cures) of non-laying hens that you can look through:

Hope you get some eggs soon!

They are probably molting. June 2011 would put them at the right age to go through their first big molt. Give them time and they will start back up again.

My icelandics are great layers - only 2 are laying right now though.

Stress? did something happen that made them stop laying 6 days after? are you feeding them properly? sometimes during winter they need a bit of extra calcium to help. :)
