I was wondering if Icelandic Chickens are a good choice to place out in our back 30 acres with our cattle and sheep. I just can't seem to get my hands on any. I've reached out to online hatcheries, Red Feather Farm and Aragorn Heritage Farm, but their is no response from either farms.

Can anyone help me? I live in Central New Jersey.

Are the Icelandic Chickens worth it for working the Back 30 of our farm? We do have predators, fox and coyotes. I heard they will roost high on trees and I have plenty of them. How do you collect the eggs they would lay? Do you put out nesting boxes?

If you have predators, skip the idea of keeping chickens exclusively freerange totally. Icelandics are a cold hardy breed that are not very large. They are not your answer to having chickens in the wild.
I know where you can get some chicks or hatching eggs, but it is seasonal. They are quite pricey as well since rare and considered exotic.
They are not very good layers, (number of eggs annually) I'm not sure how you would be gathering eggs among 30 acres.
The fox and coyotes would be feasting on High Dollar Chickens.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:
