Has anyone heard from ChickieLady? I know she was up to her neck in Washington weather - tons of snow, then rain. I hope she's okay and just really busy

Well, I had moved the remainder of the NYD hatch chicks from the Laree Brooder into grow out pen #1. I just went out to check on them and there are two or three Icelandics that just can't leave the deformed toes of the SFH pullet alone. So I took the two SFHs and put them back into the Laree brooder. I may add the Wheaten Am and the Lavendar Am back in with them tomorrow so they aren't so lonely... or perhaps #29 too.

Will they ever leave her alone? I once had a Salmon Faverolle hen with toes like that on one foot. There were a few who didn't want to leave her alone but eventually they out grew it.

They have to get over it by February 2nd when I have to put the new babies in the Laree brooder.

Did you try booties Mahonri? Probably too late now and for sure they wouldn't leave the booties alone. Darned Icelandics!

I just took her booties off and the 'straight' toes immediately curled. I figure she's gonna have to move on with live without the booties.... Those Icelandic chicks at three weeks were looking up longingly at the 5 foot high roost in the grow out pen. Unbelievable! I think they'll be roosting up there in two weeks. Watch and see!
