And I have a new Icelandic layer!! We got an egg in the Ice pen today!!

Farmerboy,so are your Tamaru s crow any different than any other roos crow? Have they been bred far enough to make a difference yet? I am thinking I want some Denzilis from that guy down in Ark. I'm with you on things Icelandic. I want Icelandic sheep so bad I can't stand it,just don't have room for them till I get moved back to Okla. I didn't know there were Icelandic cattle! Are there any in the U>S>? Are you haveing any luck selling the ice hatching eggs ? I haven't tried yet but the way they are laying I may have too! Sure hate to eat them knowing there are little Icelandics in them!lol

I can hear the differences between the Tomaru's crow and the others. The Icelandics are very high pinched crow, and the Buff Orpington's are nice and deep, the Tomaru's is longer and more trumpet-like, which sounds beautiful. Which is amazing to me, as I was born profound deaf, but I am able to hear with the help of a device called Cochlear implant. It was implanted behind my ear when I was 6. I can have a normal conversation with a normal person, unlike most deaf people. It never cease to amaze me that I can hear and tell who is crowing without looking. I love all rooster's crows. I am not sure that there are any Icelandic cattle in the U.S. =( I would like to find out. I had put some 6 Ice eggs on the auction here on BYC last week, and mlmddh won it, so I shipped 8 eggs to him and they made it safety. Then someone wanted a dozen, so I am saving some eggs for them, also another person order a dozen eggs too, and my parents are very glad that the Icelandics are paying for themselves, so they are glad that I got them. =D

I have to agree that the Icelandics have not only led me to be fascinated with all animals Icelandic, but also "landrace" breeds.

Really want to get some Soay Sheep, which are the landrace breed of St. Kilda. Trying to find more landrace breeds, but info is a hard time coming.

Anyone know of other landrace breeds, especially ones that can be obtained in the U.S.?

Daron, how wonderful that the cochlear implant worked for you! One of the awesome advances in medicine I think. And if you can discern one crow from another that is even more awesome. I am glad your Icelandics are making a little money for you. It will make it easier to tell the folks you need fencing for your emus!

Mary, there you go again! Pretty soon it will be an Emu in every yard. Ha, that will teach the neighbors who complain about crowing roosters. Wait till their roaming dogs have a look at Emu's close up.

Mary- Yes, I am very thankful for my parent pushing the doctors to get me implanted when they refused to. I am the 3rd child of 9 children of my parents, and I am the first to be born deaf. 4 sisters and 1 brother was born deaf too. 2 older brothers and youngest sister was born with normal hearing. Most of my siblings was implanted around 1 and 2 years old, while I was the latest to be implanted. Since I was implanted late, I have the most trouble understanding people on the phone, and pronouncing some of the words then any of the siblings. :/ I had another implant on the other ear, 2 years ago, and I can pinpoint where the sounds are coming from better then just one implant, but since the right side had not been used for over 15 years, it took that side a very long time to learn what kind of sounds that it was picking up. And the sounds that I am hearing on the right side sounds different then on the left side. My mom's dream is to have all of her deaf kids to have implants on both sides, but after my last surgery, the insurance company basically lied about the deducible issue, and so now two years later my parents are still paying for the surgery which is suppose to almost free! Ok, rant over, sorry.



I was looking at emu eggs on Ebay last week, and was so tempted to bid on some, but held my fingers off the mouse. My mom was walking by, and I said ''Hey, look at those pretty eggs, and she said what are those? I said emus, and would it be cool if we can hatch some, and she gave me ''The'' look. Guess she is not ready for some yet. lol
