Whoa, that would be scary. I have some back issues so I feel your pain. I raised Newfoundland dogs for many years but my back couldn't take the grooming, well mor e like the bathing. Their coats are imperveous to water so it is no easy task. At one point I had 5 Newfies, and the grooming was too much. Chickens are muche easier although I think I may become a hoarder if I don't watch it.

It's very easy to get to that point!

I don't call it hoarding though, I call it insurance. Having lost half my flock to dogs once and being currently in an all out war with the local predators I'd say its a smart thing.

Yes....not really nugded....I posted here almost two years ago when I got my original Icelandics from Mary. I posted a picture of Audun with his head hanging so low I thought he must be dead. I yelled a couple of times and he did not move. I finally banged on something and he woke up. It was the first day he had been out with his new girls friend, the SLWs, and he was exhausted....obviously..... He gave me a good scare!! He still sleeps with his head hanging like that. I don't know how he manages not to fall off the roost!

I have walked over to the hens in the "dusting hole" and looked close to see if they are breathing. They remind me of taking a bubble bath and leaning back with eyes closed, soaking-up the pure pleasure of it!!

That's adorable! My Cinco de Mayo poults all did that she they were first learning to roost. Unfortunately I didn't get the picture.

I had that happen the other night. I was walking from coop to coop to lower the pop doors. I looked in through the window of my mixed egg flock. They are a mixed HQ batch of girls with a wellie roo. They always sleep facing the opposite window. Yup there was Cornelius' big rooster tail on the top roost where he sleeps, but I could clearly see the silouette of a rooster head (huge wattles) on the bottom roost. My first thought was, "what the heck, there should only be one rooster in there". When I looked closer, his body was sleeping on the top roost, his head was sleeping on the bottom roost. That was one soundly sleeping roo!

Last night I was doing my early evening chicken check, then all I have to do later is close the doors. I stopped at the pen of icelandics. One of the cockerels I got from Mary (Sheriff) was trying to mount one of the pullets I got from Mary (NotAFarm). Those precocious little ones are about eight weeks old. Maybe today I can get some updated pictures of them.

I ought to take pictures of my Easter Icelandics, and get your opinion on them. Maybe today. There are 5 of them, 1 roo, and 4 pullets!
