Hi MaryI have eggs from augbenchum (eBay) shipping on Monday. I will have birds from all the imports that I know of at that point. He seems to be doing good things with them. I was encouraged that he has raised hundreds without any feathering issues. I am looking forward to hatching Icelandics and improving my flocks. Isi and Lukka are still going strong but Lukka hasn't been broody in months. Perhaps she has retired.
Nice to see Icelandic enthusiasts keeping the thread alive. I am just now feeling comfortable to begin posting again. ;. I changed the name of my place from the Buck 'n Run Ranch to the Egg Farm. It just suits this new place better. Since it is an old farm. Nice to be back.![]()
Mary
Mike, the trouble maker, has a contest for the Easter Hatchalong that requires a picture, taken in the past year, of chickens in the snow. I didn't have any 'cuz it's been too ___ cold to be out taking pictures. I heard a commotion outside so grabbed the camera since the chickens were obviously outside the coop. I looked out the window, Audun had a group of hens on the west side of the house in the L P/water spigot path and they were crowded into the end of the path with him in front of them. I don't know for sure but I am guessing he saw a hawk in flight and called for cover.......but there isn't anything much for cover this time of year. When he heard me come out the front door, camera in hand, he lead them toward the barn.
Then I heard a noise by the LP tank...
Asta (one of my original hens) and Gola (Forsaela x Falki pullet) were in the bushes that surround the LP tank. None of the other hens would cross the snow to get into the bushes.....only one of the other hens/pullets was an Icelandic. The others were the New Hampshires and my one Araucana. Asta was taking the threat seriously and was still in the bush when I coaxed Gola out.
Then Asta gets out but has to take a good look before she'll head to the coop/barn
Gola headed into the barn and Audun followed her in..
Asta decided to go around to the back door. That is the preferred way in and out when the weather in nice and I leave a section of the fence down when I am home and they are out.
Hmmmm.....why is the fence up and how to get back in the coop?
Up and over.......
...........or maybe just use the fence to cross the snow!
.......or maybe not.......the fence didn't make the best tightrope......
so she quit about a third of the way across.....she just sat there.......
~~so I went over and picked her up and brought her inside for a treat of mealworms for helping me get a photo for Mike's contest.....thanks Asta!
Asta will be 4 years old in May.....Audun will be 4 this month......still lovin' 'em like I did the day I got 'em!
Thanks Mary!
