Icelandic Chickens

I understand Mary, I was raised to do that too, but with a cleaner quicker version. But I know everyone can't do the task and thats quite alright! Maybe a good local 4H Club or FFA can use them for a fundraiser!

Andy,
That is great! Glad those Silkies were good warmers to send with the Icelandics!

I have never used a HovaBator incubator as a brooder. I would not want to clean poop our of styrofoam. I get them out as quickly as possible and put them in brooder #1, which is a rubbermaid tub on paper towels, with a red light for heat. I keep them there for a week or two and then move them into brooder #2 .... a cabinet type with pine shavings..... and on and on and on.

So glad to hear they are all doing well!

Oh, so cute! My New Year's baby cochins are starting to fight and it is hysterical. They are no bigger than a minute and all up in each other's business! I have to let them out tomorrow. They can burn off some energy running from the mean big girls.

Do any of ya'll know what infrared clear light is? my feed store HIGHLY recommended it and they were almost insistent that ANY other bulb wasn't good for chicks. I just never heard of this before? Clueless in Fredericksburg....

Amen to Grandmothers, mine was my heart, we called her Mumsie, when I was 2 years old and of few words and strong opinions, I was put on a barstool overlooking the kitchen where the women could keep an eye on me. Of course I don't remember this but I've heard it told a hundred times. After a few minutes, I loudly called out "Mumsie!!!" and in her precious cajun accent she said with laughter in her voice, "What is it Huunea?" to which I sharply responded "Dont talk, COOK!" and all the people in the house fell out laughing! We have the funnest family in the entire worlt! Yeah cher if you is from de Bayou its de worlt! Mumsie wherever you are out there, I'm glad you are wit Jesus, and God I hope you never saw all de trouble i could get masef into down here! But I promise, you sho be proud yo grandson yeah! A shout out to all de Granmeres e Granmemes!

Mary... most places don't count chicks in the total allowable... and since they technically aren't adults till they are a year old... I'd say you have a lot of room before you hit the limit....
