Exciting news (at least for me)! When I just went out to shut up the coop, I couldn't find Harpa at first. I found her all settled into a nest box. That's a good sign, right? Not that I need more chicks right now, but I'm pretty stoked!!!

Yay, Harpa!! Chicks raised by momma hens are sooooooo easy....momma does all the work and we just get to enjoy watching them!

I found a cache of eleven eggs one of my girls had hidden. Looks like I'll be firing up the bator again.

That's awesome! LOVE incubating eggs! Harpa was out this morning, but I'm hoping that this is the beginning of her mom instincts kicking in. I will keep you all posted... Fingers crossed!

Any update on the possible broody?

I candled my Cinco de Mayo hatch a long eggs today. 16 of 17 developing.

But still no broody.

I know it is only Tres de Mayo......but I know Icelandics like to be early to the party.....any chicks yet?

Just busy around the place. Spring suddenly appeared!

But, no early pips yet. I pulled one more egg, so I'm at 15. No broody, so it looks like I'm raising them.

Well, no broody here either.

Still trying! My little lady was not on the nest the next morning and has not returned to sitting (other than a few minutes to lay, of course). Oh well, brooding ALL my chicks has kept me too busy to worry about it! I put 4 cuckoo Marrans pullet chicks out in a wire kennel in our main coop today, and we have been working on the new hoop coop for our back yard this past weekend. I need a weekend off from my weekend! Lol! I am now down to 32 chicks in 9 brooders, although only a select few will stay as adults. I am anxiously awaiting the hatching of some classroom chicks (HS science teacher- not my classroom) to be able to reclaim my incubator and pick up some eggs from Lyle Behl. I am REALLY excited to meet him and maybe get to see some of his birds. His egg prices seem pretty reasonable, and adding some new genes might be beneficial. After the hoop coop/brooder coop is done (hopefully in a couple days if we don't get solid rain), the plan is to move the 6/7 week olds out into it to grow out and sell the majority off.
