Icelandic Chickens

Well, I was supposed to receive my icelandic hatching eggs this week but apparently his AI status wasn't received in time for my ship date so I've been moved to a ship date of may 23rd.

This puts me having brand new chicks during the week we will be out of town though, or could even potentially mean hatching eggs if they don't ship on time. I have a neighbor who feeds and waters my chickens when we go out of town but I'm not sure would be able to leave chicks.
And his AI status for shipping to my state is only 90 days.
:(

Did you let him know you would prefer a later date because you will be gone? Surely he would work with you since it isn't your fault!!

Got some pictures of the Easter Hatchalong chicks with their mommas yesterday. It never really warmed up even with the sun shining, 43F and windy.

Mike, Still no broodies?! You need to go out there and have a talk with those girls!

I will be candling Gula's eggs tonight....day 10. I haven't moved her from the main coop since I have the other two with chicks taking up my broody coops. I found her in the wrong nest one day when I got home from work. The high that day was 53F. I have no idea how long she was off the nest but the eggs felt cool. I put her back on the eggs and she's been flattened on them without any further mishaps. Tonight will tell if anything will hatch for her.

It looks like I have another volunteer...I'll know tomorrow if she stays on the nest again today and tonight.

Nope, no broody here. Left a nice clutch of eggs where they were laying, no takers.

Fingers crossed for your day 10 candle.

I have 7 in an incubator to candle, they are on day 8.

Mary sounds like they are playing musical broodies. I know I shouldn't make fun of them(chickens) but, how hard can it be for a broody to find the right nest, if HERS have a few eggs already in it. Okay, I'm sorry I will accept my punishment and stand in the corner.
