OMG.....OMG.....OMG....... I just had the crap scared outta me!
Today is day 18 for some eggs I have incubating. Well, it WAS day 18 at midnight last night. So, OK, I'm late transferring the eggs from the incubator to the hatcher. What can I say, I'm busy ya know!
Finally, I get to it. The hatchers are warm and steady. I go to the Sportsman. Click the button to make the shelves go straight (cuz they rock back and forth, ya know). I open the plexi glass door, and pull the shelf out. AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH, scream! ! ! I see a mouse! I am deathly afraid of mice. I mean ..... heart attack kinda afraid. Trembling, I hear something. It is a chick! A little grey (blue) silkie chick, fully hatched and fluffy, running around atop the eggs!
I holler for my husband. Well, he was already on his way, since he heard my blood curdling scream. I hand off the chick to him, so I can finish loading the hatchers. There are 3 more pips (well, one is zipping). Alll Silkie eggs. I'm thinking .... what the heck is up with this?
OH YEAH...... I forgot ......
A couple weeks ago I had a broody silkie sitting for about a week. I took her eggs away from her and gave her a couple silkie babies in exchange. It worked! She accepted them, and is happy as peas in a pod. I took her eggs ...... oh yeah, I put them in the incubator! I forgot about them!
