Well, I hope ya get some fertile eggs before you send him packin'! He is a nice lookin' guy!

Hey .... Does Blind Lucy lay eggs? I read an article that blind poultry (male and female) are sterile. Did you know that? Something about fertility requiring light, and something about the pinna of the eye. I can't remember it all.

A couple new Icelandics arrived in Missouri today ....

Blind Lucy has not laid for a long time. She still laid infrequently after Gayle poked her eye out but as the other one started to fail she quit laying altogether. It would make sense that a visually impaired hen could not lay due to needing a certain amount of light hitting the eye daily. She still has enough vision to find the feeder. She is quite a chunk. Many nights now I have to pick her up off the floor or find her roosting on the lip of the bottom nest box, and need to move her to her handicap roost. It is sad to watch her bump into things and fall off the little deck when she was once such a vibrant active girl. I look forward to talking to her and holding her for a bit every single day because I suspect she will not be with us much longer. The last few weeks I have seen a decline in her general condition.

Lucy, Judge Judy and Martha Stewart have been together since the beginning and they all look after each other. Here she is on her little handicapped roost with Judy checking in on her. I put the side and top on to protect her from drafts since she is right next to the vent.

Oh yeah, I have a LOT of roosters here!

Ages? Hmmmm, I hatch every week, and I always toss in a few eggs. The oldest I have (pictures the other day) are about 3 months old, I think. These pictures today are (guesssing) 2 months and 1 month olds. Of course there are the 2 chicks that hatched yesterday also (pictured above these). I have all ages!
