Icelandic Chickens

Do you want me to send more, or send chicks? I hate this! I am sooooo sorry!

Those are going to be some stinky eggs wherever they end up! Good grief. Sounds like my Easter Olive Eggers en route for 9 days and rotten on arrival. As hard as we try it seems like it always out of our control.

I am chick obsessed, going down to the barn coop to check them every time I feel like I can stand up for a few minutes! So far all the remaining babies look good.

It has been so hot. We went from Winter to Summer, completely bypassing Spring!

I've got to get some pics and a way to let the brood of 37 free range a little. The three BRs , 1 NH and 1 SLW are GROWING.

There is one ICELANDIC that came out of one of Kathy's large white eggs that is HUGE... are there Giant Icelandics? Almost looks like a Delware!

all white with a little black on the feathers. I'm imagining roo and I'm thinking he and Vindur will be the two I'll keep for good.

Vindur has started trying to crow... I laugh every time. Jordan/Earth, the roo I gave to the Goss family is already crowing.

Not a great day yesterday, lost the little guy, the darkest one,

I am going to leave the last eggs in the incubator for lock down and pull the plug on the turner this friday. The hatcher isnt.

So far its been a terrible hatching season. Three chicks out of 44 set. Something drastically wrong.

I am going to carry these through, and get moved, in June will try another set with the Brinsea thermometer, still havent received that yet.

So, live and learn, regroup, find out what is wrong and fix it, then try again. May also look for some chicks too in June besides some eggs, to give the 3 Amigos some company.

Another week coming on.

I am so sorry your hatching is not going well. Any thought's on what the issue(s) could be?
I might have some Lyle Behl line eggs later in the season if you want some. My little hen Nalla should start laying around late July early Auguest

I have my 1st hatch ready for lockdown later today with hatching

Wednesday

At this time the first poor hatch (3 survivors) may have had some cold weather shipping influence but I am leaning towards the major culprit to be in the hatcher unit, also further hindered by no two thermometers agreeing. I am going to run another temperature test just to track daily flucuations, and am going to order another Brinsea thermometer to check it, it may need a new thermostat, I dont know yet, but mean to find out.

The last set will go into lockdown on this coming friday, and they are staying where they are and I will just unplug the turner. Or remove it and put the eggs into cartons. That might be the better approach.

We shall see what will be.

Thanks Laree, ditto to you! We combined a Mother's Day and my parents 68th Wedding Anniversary celebration yesterday so I am done, stick a fork in me. Today I am going to lay on the couch and eat bon bons, except that I don't have bon bons, so I may have to improvise. The laying on the couch is the part I am really looking forward to anyway!
