Icelandic Chickens

How early can you tell if they are going to have a crest? One of the browns from Kathy looks to me like he has a little extra up on top.. This was the best shot I got out of about 30 tries.. LOL The icelandics don't hold still do they?

These two posed perfectly though.. They are the ones from Mary's eggs.

The black one from Kathy is developing some red tones as the feathers are coming in.. going to be gorgeous!!

My turkeys have decided that jumping up on the water bottle and then flying across the brooder is great fun.. They even take turns!!

And then there's always the clover buffett

Mary and (other) Mary... Makes sense to me.. I have gotten two boxes that weren't marked and almost every egg had detached air cells and almost nothing developed.. ie the 2 chicks from 2 dozen eggs from Mary... Both these boxes were in perfect condition and nothing was broken.. On the other hand, the best hatch I have had from shipped eggs was a box that had been marked with everything including pictures of baby chcks... 12 out of 15 were fertile and all 12 hatched!!

Holy cow.. you take a few minutes to get some pictures uploaded and before you get your post finished... all kinds of things happen!!

on the three new chicks... only 29? to go?? I can't remember how many eggs were left... I had the picture up and said to the family look at the first 3 icelandic chicks... my 9 year old was on his way downstairs to check them out before I could inform him that they were still in California...

Congrats on the hatch, Mary! I can hardly wait to see them all!

SHE DID IT AGAIN! I swear she must be related to Stella! This time I got a picture of her.......... outside the fence! No one else does this, just little Stella. I had 2 groups ( 1 week apart in age) outside in a make-shift pen under a big shade tree outside my door, while they waited for their new home to be finished. See her in the last picture, outside the fence?
