Mahonri, I'm so glad you get to keep some of your girls

Now, about that picture

I don't mean to butt in uninvited, but couldn't you at least try to find these two girls a home first, rather than kill them? They are young, pretty, and while your circumstances may not afford them a comfortable winter, perhaps someone else's barn or coop might. It's worth a try, in my opinion.

Well, I got all my follow up treatment (Permethrin dust) and worming (Ivermectin) done yesterday. It was day 7 after the first Permethrin dip. What a job that was! Dust flyin' everywhere! Of course, as expected, the hardest to catch were the flyin' Icelandics. What a sight we must have been. Today everyone gets treated to yogurt. I just mix it in with some feed. They just love it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Warden, that isn't our Louis (Louie) that we gave to Ryan, is it?
Our Louie should be all grown up by now.
I have not heard from Ryan, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that he has enough Cayuga eggs to trade me this next coming spring (for all the Emus we gave him)
Last spring he had few eggs, probably the strange wet spring.
Dad still says he misses his Emus, and wants to visit them.
Maybe he can drive over & see them at Ryan's.
Dad is awful lonely after having so many pheasants, 11 Emus, and hordes of chickens, and then Mom died and Dad got rid of every animal, even the dogs.
Seems like his whole ranch would be so depressing, lonely & deathly quiet now...sad.

I let the birds decide. They are all gorgeous so I watch and see who is at the top of the pecking order. I make note as the boys square off against each other, who is the usual victor. I also make note of who wounds the alarm when needed, who is nicest to the ladies, shares the treats rather than hogs them all for himself, and who the ladies seem to fancy the best. Some days it's one other days it's another, but there were 2 that were clearly "The One" more often than the rest.

I love that last pic you posted. What a great head of hair

That last pic, the blue pullet, is my favorite one.
She has always had these BIG brown eyes and a point on her head making her look as if she were some exotic grouse rather than a chicken.
In front of her 'dark brown wig hat' she has on either side of her nose, several lighter, almost parttridge type plumes (hard to see in my picture..have a pic of her as a chick, looking through the window at me...she has lovely darker lacing on her blue-body feathers also.

She is sooo cute!!

EMaker, I hesitate to respond to your post for fear of starting/continuing a subject that is very delicate, but I feel you deserve a response. Suffice it to say, this is not a decision I came to lightly but feel it is the one that needs to be made. Perhaps mentioning it here was a mistake but mention it I did and live with my decision I will.

I see. I wasn't trying to be inciteful with my post, just to be clear. I was making a constructive suggestion, is all. Plus, I was referring to finding them a pet home, not to be bred, etc.
