Icelandic Chickens

Too funny. I actually have a similar model running right now in my layer coop. It is setting four Ameraucana eggs and two olive eggers due to hatch on the 21st. I have noticed these older models don't observe the rules of lockdown.

The roof of the coop get corrigated roofing panels - it's the same stuff as regular shingles just in sheet form.
There is a gap between the walls and the roof for venting (there are vents at the bottom too, with hardware cloth over them)

My current coop as this same design and stays very nice and cool in the heat of the TX summer

The tin roof goes on the run - I use a chain link dog run, with 2x6's around the edges to hold in the sand. The whole think is bolted to the rock hard TX ground. (same as my current run)

There is an 8ft wood fence on one long side of the run so it's in the shade most of the day.

The new coop is going to be 7ft wide x 4ft deep and pretty tall, with roosts pretty high up.

Luckily, we don't have a huge problem with no winged predators here - usually have a Great Pyr (or 2) in the yard from the TX rescue group. The seem to take the job of keeping chickens save very seriously. Had one who was safe in the baby's run. Let them roost all over him. He was adopted where he takes care of a flock of 75 free ranged chickens & some ducks.

I am going to make the run for the Icelandic's taller and larger (current run for the egg laying flock is 10x12)
Just wondering if they would like anything special in there.

I was thinking a "tree" with "branches" at various heights
can hide a few spots for veggies up there too

Congrads Lynn! it is wonderful to hear and see your excitement, nothing short of a miracle to watch these babies hatch and grow out!
