Icelandic Chickens

I candled the Icelandic eggs last night and three were still dancing.. I tossed two of the maybes but kept one that is still questionable.. This morning I have 2 pips that I can see!!

The fainting part is what makes these goats desirable. Certain activities that other breeds thrive on, like tearing down gates, jumping fences, etc, makes them faint. They don't like the feeling so after a certain activity causes them to faint a few times, they give it up. They are said to be real easy keepers for that reason. One of mine is much more myotonic than the other. She used to faint when she got excited about seeing me or if I was bringing food. I haven't seen her do that for awhile.

Shawn where theres a pip theres hope.

Heres hoping for many more.

Mary I am glad that you are happy with the Myotonic Goats, here they would be coyote buffet.

I am seeing on my six 3 distinctly different combs, at the moment, something new to see everyday with them.

YEA!!! We have an Icelandic!!! Just hatched... a little blondie.. One other egg is pipped but can't tell on the third.. Hopefully I'll have two more by the time the day is through..

Hey everyone! My Icelandics have taken to the trees! As they get older they are roosting higher and higher up and farther out on the ends of the branches. They are tending to separate quite a bit too. Each Rooster ALWAYS roosts next to a hen. The other hens roost by themselves in a totally different tree as they are getting older. This all started with my original Lyle Behl Icelandics roosting in a Texas mountain Laurel. The first pair still roosts there. All the rest have moved to other trees. Now they are in the Pecans, and one pair is in a Deodora Cedar tree. its really awesome watching them figure it all out!

I hatched a few today, too. Hopeful on a couple more. I am very busy hatching today. I took tons of pictures outside. Romeo is driving me crazy. He runs after anything in a skirt (including the babies), so to speak.
