I'm saying a prayer for your goat and your little brown Icelandic.

The pasty butt I was expecting because of the way this guy hatched and how small and fragile he is.

The stomping I wasn't expecting. The I am hoping it is just a soft tissue injury and that he will be better tomorrow. I had a guy who had been trying to buy the buckling from me. I saw evidence today that he has or has tried to mate the little girl goats and they are waaaaaay too young. I would have to fence off yet another pasture for him and and build another shelter and buy him a friend so I decided to sell him to the guy for half what I paid and get stud rights for when the girls are ready. I made the deal and then decided I needed to move him for the safety of the girls. The new owner can't pick him up for two weeks because they are going on vacation. We put him in the pasture with Jack and Diane and they all got along for the hour we stayed with them. The minute we came in the house I looked out the window and Jack had reared up and was stomping him into the ground. We ran out and got Jack off him but he was already hurt. He can walk but is limping pretty badly. I feel horrible. Again. And stupid. Again. Jack is a great guard animal but we just can't have any animals get into that pasture with him. I really don't think Michael and I will ever get him to the point where we can halter him, spray him for flies, etc.

I know! I just love this little group, too. They really are so fun! I separated them from the other breeds a couple days after they hatched. With just the Icelandics alone, I notice they are so much calmer and happier.

If they were hatched with other eggs how do you know which ones are the Icelandics?

Mary I'm sorry about the goat

I am considering some cross meat-dairy goats, for hiking companions, maybe some overnight camping trips in the forests here. Looking at a Boer or Kiko cross with Saanen or Alpine. I would prefer the Kiko over the Boer just for a better hair coat.

Something else to do for between 10pm and 5 am. And to keep me off the puter

Enjoy all, beautiful sunny June day here, but too dry !
