Icelandic Chickens

The Warden said Today @ 4:42 pm:
My Icelandic broody that isn't Lukka! She's been sitting on and off (mostly on) for weeks. She got off her eggs for a night and I gave them to Skye. She now has one little egg she is sitting on. She is so sweet she doesn't even know she's supposed to bite our arms off when we reach in and check under her. She lets us pet her for as long as we want and she just coos.

She is gorgeous! what is her name? and how old is she?

She doesn't have a name yet Snaphu. I have so many I can't keep them all straight. I call them all Pretty Girl and Pretty Boy. I also don't know how old she is. Just a young pullet though. She hasn't been laying long.

thanks Warden, I'm just wondering because my only Icelandic hen has been laying since mid-January, turned a year old this July and hasn't gone "broody" yet?!!

My first batch of Icelandics (from Mary) are just over 4 months old. The girl's combs are starting to get redder, and I know it's still pretty early but I feel like the countdown is begining for them to start laying. Maybe within the next 30 days?

Mahonri where did you come up with the icelandic names? I just got my first one. He is a red and black like a bb red in color and has a rose comb and small tuuf behind the comb. Is anyone going to have egggs for sale this early fall?

I used Google Translate to get my Icelandic names.

I'm hoping I'll have eggs come October or November and I imagine Kathy and the Mary's will also have them.

The one in the front is Debbie Harry, Kelly was undecided on this one, but she's not crowing yet

Here she is with her friend who still needs a name. These are from Mary's eggs.

This is such a pretty girl, a beautiful mix of a dusty rose color with the powder blue
