Icelandic Chickens

Hello Folks. I hope to get to be a regular on here as I am now an official Icelandic owner!!!!
I just got the flock that belonged to Critter Lover here in Tennessee. She said she got her stock from Camelot Farms and on reading the back pages(yes all 200+) that she got hers from Mary! So I am very happy to have birds from such a distinquished source! I have a roo and six hens. I had another roo that I also got from Critter but as I was unloading the new birds he got out and totally disappeared! I hated losing my back up roo but have located a new one in my home state of Oklahoma form Graybeard. He got his from Kathyinmo so that will complete my distigushed blood lines!I am goig to post some pics of the new birds. Have enjoyed reading this thread and am in total love of the breed.

There is a good selection of color in the hens and half have toptuffs. The roo is a splash ans is also very dirty and will be much prettier when he moults. I can hardly wait till spring to start hatching these beautys.

Welcome okla-doodle-do and congratulations on the Icelandics. Nice looking bunch! I especially like that black and white mottled one. I think I have two of those growing out right now. That black and orange one looks just like Stella and if you have read much of this thread that might be a cure. Stella is a Icelandic/EE mix so her eggs have never been hatched but the gypsy in her seems to spread to other birds. So shore up security at your place and keep coming back!

I noticed Okla-d-d's mottled ones don't have crests and wondered about yours.
The mottled hens in the article with Johanna only have very slight crests. My one mottled hen isn't crested and hasn't had any mottled chicks thus far but has had other colors that have crests and some that don't. I wonder if this is an example of what Jake was talking about, the gene combinations that hide or suppress certain traits that we will be "discovering" along the way.

Welcome Doodle doo !

It sure does seem that we have a much healthier situation then early in the spring. I am looking forward to this coming spring big time now as I am sure many others are.

My mottled ones from Mary are crested..in fact all of them are crested.
It is uncanny how much they (yours) look like mine

Beautiful birds!!!!!!!!
I am still trying to choose which Cockerals to keep..but so far, of 5, they all get along just fine, so why worry?
has anyone had issues with cockerals/cocks fighting?

So far, all mine get along, as if they are a small village unto themselves, or family..time will tell I suppse, but they are gorgeous!
