Icelandic Chickens

The second and last Barnevelder has hatched! Mama and babies appear to be doing well. Pics maybe tomorrow if she takes them out for food and drink.

I did not know that there were problems with the Brinsea incubators? have always heard praises for them. Could you let me know the problems with them. I have an old fashioned bator that I have to turn myself, I do it 5 times a day I have always had great hatches with it. I got it years ago to hatch parrot eggs so it is very accuate in temp and humidity. have used it 5 times on chooks eggs with great results. I was thinking on getting a updated bator but maybe just stay with this one?

Rusty Hen you are blessed with having an older incubator, what make is it?

I have never owned a Brinsea so cant speak from experience with them, I do have a couple friends who had troubles with theirs, but I dont think its enough for a statistical case against them, the companys reaction though does put me on guard.

All companys, and all people I know will have screw ups from time to time, what sorts them out is how they handle the problem. Thats the big difference.

Mary congrats on the 2nd hatch !!

Long story short. Mine arrived damaged. I had it replaced under warranty the same day. Later the digital temperature mechanism went out and they wouldn't repair it because I didn't mail in my warranty card! I contacted the attorney general's office for the State of CA and they told me it is illegal for a company to require the warranty card to be mailed in if they do business in CA. Bottom line, after that and a letter from Consumer Affairs confirming that is the law, they basically said they couldn't care less. That's their policy and they would not honor my warranty. I applied for help from one of the local TV stations Call Curtis and when they contacted Brinsea they were told the same thing. They don't care what the law is in CA. They do whatever they want. Basically the "B" that answers the Brinsea phone gave me a price for the repair and with shipping it was more that the $500.00+ I paid for the incubator. Buyer Beware.

That was much the same tone that my friend received, they said sue, so he did, was awarded just a flat replacement value on the raptor eggs which in no way approached the real value, and he never did receive it, he also is in Cal, not too far from San Jose. His units were the top of the line pricier ones.

I know of another situation in which the company didnot stand behind their product. I wouldnt buy one, or take one as a gift.

Here is a little video of the pretty mottled Icelandic pullet that Lukka hatched and raised last go-round. She is my only mottled pullet. She is becoming more beautiful day by day but she is meaner than a junkyard dog! Tonight I saw her stepping on the babies on the roost and she grabbed a little roo by his crest and threw him off the top roost. Why are the pretty girls always mean?

She is a beauty Mary ! I sure hope that she outgrows that mean ! Its very highly inheritable ! Isi Isison started up bossy but Blau put him down several times and he has mellowed out beautifully. So it can be with her. I had a couple mottled ones but I think Daron has them now. I am hoping for more this spring.

I have the 'brooder' for the Feathered Three ! An oversize heavy wire dog crate, it will be on a table next to the puter to watch them as I write !

and eat !

2" of snow yesterday afternoon, one of those magical snow times with huge flakes coming softly down, no wind, perfectly still, mixed snow and rain though forcast all weekend, tis the season !

I got the shed about 3/4 done, roofed over the Goat and Icelandic sections, the other is for wood storage until its finished off as a chicken pen too. By next week sometime I should have it all done and the goats and chickens in their new quarters !

I have one of those pullets too. I LOVE her, but if she starts stepping on babies, I'm gonna ruin her day.
