You like Lavender, too? Sure, I will pen them in the spring. They are in the layers coop for the winter.

I do love those SLWs, too!
Your NH has tiny comb and wattles? Hmmm, I dunno.... must be that Arizona weather.

Here are some pullets (pictures before they started to lay), with varying sizes....

The Rodenator guy blasted tunnels all over our property but the most annoying rodents live under our wrap-around deck. He wouldn't detonate under there for fear of blowing up the house. A couple of hours after he left two of these ran from under the house to the coop to eat! I snapped this pic from my office. he gave us some tips on how to be more effective in using our trap. A neighbor came by and wanted him to do her property too. When he does hers, he will do ours again at no cost. It was so unbelievably loud. He has to call the police and tell them he is blasting so they can tell people who call in what is going on. People all came to see what was blowing up.

The fainting goats were amazing. Only once did one of them stiffen up. They eventually moved to the back end of the property. The emus went a little cuckoo over it. He opens the tunnel and shoves the wand in then tightens the dirt around it. Then he pipes oxygen and propane into the tunnel. He then detonates it killing anything in the tunnels instantly. It is $70 per hour with a three hour minimum and $.50 per mile from Sacramento. Since we had so many areas he couldn't blast we just paid for the two hours he was here.

This is why he wouldn't detonate under the coop, the deck or near the propane tank!

I'd sure hope he wears ear plugs! I'd wear solid fitting ear muffins !

Its a spectacular effect though.

I would place those traps under tarps, behind ply leaning against walls etc. And get a Jack Russell puppy, and teach it that chicks and chickens are family too.

Kathy! Your lavs Ams are purty!

I must resist the temptation. Must resist! No room for another breed, just downsized. But it will not hurt to keep a few for the Olive Egger pen, right?

Maybe they will lay if I get them some nest boxes.

Sheriff Mary, you have a ground squirrel problem?
FiL (in lake county) has about 6 acres in almonds and another 3 in walnuts, the rest in apricots...and he is infested with ground squirrels.
We have tried all sorts of poisons & traps but they multiply faster.
The colony of rodents have attracted various large snakes, too.
Good to get rid of the squirrels, but bad for the livestock & people.
He has had quite a few big rattlesnakes.
Then when it was hot, the snakes would curl up under his house....and hunt at night.
Scarey!!!

We have chipmunks..and they have been spotted running into the green house, and out from coops.
They usually stop to cuss at us when spotted, in their chirpy-bark voice.
So far, their numbers have remained small.

Chipmunks are VERY territorial ! They have tremendous fights over territory so while they are common they are spread out, ground squirrels otoh arnt, actually have semi colonys. The gas works very well, but it has to be a periodic thing. Box traps work really well, but need to be reset daily. Right now there isnt a good multiple catching one for ground squirrels. To me the JRT is the best all around rodent hunter. Always on the job. But you need to imprint them young on who is family and who isnt, then let them have free run of all.
