Icelandic Chickens

Y'all are mean!

Jake, that is brilliant, keeping the chickens in a trailer till the molt is over! Is it molt or moult? Whatever it is, it is messy. All you have to do is sweep it out! I've been raking feathers for months!

No...Ryan went there with what I understood to be several family members, uncles & such..maybe 5 or 6 people.
They all got the snot beat out of them herding , penning, sock on the head (of the Emu) and trying to get them in the trailer...DH says it was hysterical when it wasn't so scarey!

Life is better with pictures, too, ya know!

This please note Jake:

I asked terra Pfingsted of the Washington Feather Fanciers a few weeks ago if I could rent a big turkey-sized cage at the show in which to display for educational purposes, some Icelandics.
I have my own table & would care for them & attach a poster explaining the breed & it's origins.
She replied she had to ask higher ups.
The Ameraucana club, Fav club, etc all has tables set up around the show area walls & I wanted to display some Icees so folks could see.

She never replied so I e-mailed Brian Decker (club pres) and asked him, explaining my ambitions.
He e-mailed back that this is an APA/ABA sanctioned show, and in such, I was welcome to enter any bird I choose to.
That they would be IN the show & thus be judged.

I would also be expected to pay entry fee on each.
I also assume he would individually cage each as if they were being shown, rather than "displayed"
he did say I could hand out any poultry based literature I choosed to.
So what..now I hang a sandwich board around my neck (wheelchair) and roll around carrying an icee on my lap???

I will figure out something.
I am still going to bring 4-5 of them, if at all possible, and maybe able to talk him into it AT coop in.
I will get started on a poster describling the breed....
prepared to run into walls, roadblocks, and the unbelievers with this breed.........

My sister-in-law had gotten a new camera from my brother for her Birthday/Christmas, and she was at our house practicing taking pictures, and I said it would be good practice if she can take pictures of my chickens, for most of you know that taking a good picture of a chicken takes lots, and lots of practices, and she have a family shoot on Saturday for a family. I am sure after taking about 1000 pictures of the chickens, she will take a good picture of the family, right??
Well, here is one that she took of the Icelandic roo that I got from Crossroad-

She also took lots of other pictures of the Icelandics, I will have to wait until she emails me them, so I can post them here.

This is the latest reponse from MrDecker as to my asking if I could "display" Icelandics at the upcoming show.

No Problem Robin; Just send a supplemental entry. If you have the standard printed for them we will have the judge go over it and place them to best of variety and breed. According to APA and ABA rules they cannot go farther than that. On the entry blank we need to know the comb type and whether they have clean legs or feather legs. I am working with the show secretary on the entries so I will be looking for your additions

Brian

So, HA HA, can you imagine what the entry form would look like?
Example:
1) LF/blue wheaten/crested/feather shanked/cockeral
2) LF/red/brown/spangled/crested/clean legged/ cockeral
3) LF/birchen-spangled/crested/clean legged/cockeral
4) LF / blue/brown crested/clean legged/pullet
and so on................

I can see it now, I would have 1 icee in each row, in each breed/division, in both clean legged & feather legged divisions, all over the entire show arena.........

I sent him back a e-mail telling him again, that the Icelandic was just recently imported to the USA, and there is no standard & that I doubt if ever there will be due to such vast breed characteristics and colors.
I asked simple (again) to have a space to place my table, with cage atop, next to the Fav breed club or Ameraucana breed club tables, so as to display & educate the public, not to 'show' the birds.
IF he insists I enter each bird & actually 'show' them & thereby they be judged..that could be some devilishly good fun too, now wouldn't it??????????

What should I do?
Enter them & actually 'show' them?
After all, my Midget White Turkeys are not in the SOP either, yet last summer I entered a pair & against several Bourbon reds & narragansetts, won 1st & 2nd (the hen is younger) BB, BV, and went on to get both special award and Grand Champion...blew me away!!!!!!!

What do you all think I should do?
Give up & leave them home (if he says I cannot have a display table with the other breed clubs) or enter & show them????
