Icelandic Chickens

I bet Emus can't tolerate Chicago type winters, so we're safe for now. Whew. Maybe I better see if they have any at Brookfield zoo, I know they have ostriches.

How can I get 2 and a half days behind on this thread!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!

......because you're ignoring us for your namesake thread....that's how!

So I go away for 24 hours.........come home to find one of Krystal's five chicks missing.

Can't it anywhere, no feathers or carcass..........just gone......the friend that did chicken chores for me didn't count them last night so doesn't know if was in the coop when she locked up or if it was there this morning when she opened the doors. Guess which one it is?.........that's right, the one that has the unique coloring..........I guess we'll never know what it will turn-out like.........the DH's response, "How many eggs do you have in the incubator?"

I have two broody Icelandic pullets right now.........(okay, Kleo will be a year old on the 30/31 of March so at that point will be a "hen", and she did sit on and hatch two eggs last fall, which she "attempted" to mother for 3 1/2 weeks before she weaned them, so she's not exactly a rookie, but also not a candidate for Mother of the Year).....the big question is which of the Easter Hatchalong eggs will be entrusted to their care? It won't be until nearer to hatch day but I'm wondering...........

I hope I have a few more to go broody before hatch day as I would much rather have them raising the chicks!!!

Oh I'm so sorry! Why is it stuff always happens to our favorites?!

Kathy, I know phoney snow when I see it, or maybe "photo shopped," besides it doesn't say what state they are in. This could have been just a once in a lifetime snow storm - doesn't count at all.
Plus which, for all I know the emu's could have frozen to death a half hour later. But of course, NO photos of that!
