Icelandic Chickens

Here is Lukka in her new broody bed. I bought 2, one for Lukka and one for a give-a-way on my website. I think it is the cutest thing ever! We moved her tonight when we put the animals in for the night. Michael put her in the egg and she settled right down on her little clutch of 7 eggs.

I was happy to see that after a few minutes she got up to eat and drink. I think she will do much better in the little broody condo.

I had to kick the current residents out for violation of the rules. This is the frame over the door!

You can win one. Just go leave a comment on the contest post on my blog. Oops, I see you already did!

Michael says he has to know what video camera you used on your video. He loved how smooth it was and the colors were beautiful!

Oh, my Brinsea cabinet incubator came today too. It is a little flimsier than I thought it would be but I don't plan to move it around. I moved all the eggs over to it after getting it up to temp. Tomorrow I will lock down my Easter hatch-a-long eggs!

I am not planning on ever hatching the offspring of the Icelandic/Silkie mating. Besides it being an unholy alliance and a possible poultry atrocity of epic proportions, I want to keep the breed pure and not be one to experiment. The Divine Miss M has no idea she is not sitting on her own offspring. By the time she and the babies figure it out they will be so over it anyway!

Oh dear. I understand the need to keep the strain pure, but I just had SUCH a laugh at the visual images of those poor, POOR babies. lol. If not for the purity issues you should do ONE dozen just to SEE what comes out of the shell, lol.
