Hi everyone! I'm new to BYC and have enjoyed reading for quite a while. Got into chickens last June and have done some research only to realize that I've fallen in love (my hubby says obsessed) with Icelandics.

I have four 4 month olds(3 roos

), 3 two month olds(2 roos

) and I finally broke down and got some hatching eggs that should hatch around June 7. It seems like there are a lot of males out there. Is there anyone else in CT that might have girls?

I'd consider posting but, my son has my camera and cant find the card. I would like to post some of mine that I am rehoming, the two roosters, and thehens, The Contessa, Blue(self blue), and the three Wheatens. One trio is staying local. Not as pretty as the rest of the flock.

Fugly may surprise all of you. He is in a good place, all chickens should have it as good.

My most messed up frayed rooster looks pretty nice now, but he is small and has a couple wing feathers screwed up, not a breeder, but would make someone a nice pet, he is also much smaller then the other two roosters. The BBR rooster hatched first week of June is literally 3 times his size. His brother with the hens is more then twice his size. So he gets cut just on that.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

I have a male and female Golden Campine. My rooster is awsome. he is great at protecting my girls from Hawks. and the hen is a egg laying machine get about 6 eggs per 7 days from her. too bad the campines will have to go once my other icelandic rooster is of age. icelandics are all I am going to breed so the roosters have to be icelandics. and all the white layers icelandics.
I am mixing true ameraucana's olive eggers and Penedesenca's as well so I have
blue olive and dark terra cotta brown ages as well but will not be breeding them. I may breed the Penedesenca's in a seperate pen while the rest free range it.

So after looking at those pics last night and seeing what looked like the fray thing on my blue pullet, after I cleaned their pen this morning, I caught her to take a look.

Yup... fray gene... and I thought she was so beautiful.We'll see how she does... If I rehome her, no one will know it's an Icelandic.

Now I'll admit your bird has a golden head, but a campine is barred. Here are a couple of GC from my show stock.

Well I made a whopper of a trade today, I traded one of my Game Roosters for an Icelandic hen(she is from Kathy in Mo stock) AND she has a really big top knot!!!

she is a black hen with redish orange in her neck, I am putting her in a pen by herself for a while to make sure she is healthy and she is not bred to some foreign poultry variety!!! Then she is going in with my Blue Golden Icelandic Rooster (which I think came from Kathy in Mo also or it came from Notafarm Mary ) anyways he is gorgeous and I hope to get lots of color and top knots!!!!!

I can't hardly stand the waiting though!!! Will try and post pics, my wife got the camera set up for use on the computer yesterday so will try to get some good early morning sun pictures of the Icelandics, Later all, have a great day, Lynn in Okla.
