I'd like to give the chicks a little stick to roost on

so what do i clean it with? i have tons outside i can use but hot water and dawn soap to clean/disinfect it? The babies are 8/9 days old.

This is for there indoor brooder... thanks!
 
I personally dont think the chicks will need a roost but it shouldn't hurt. And they might poop on it a lot so i suggest you clean it once a month with the water and soap and put plastic bins underneath the brooder where the roost is to catch the extra poop. they poop while they sleep.
 
We avoided it since they aren't big enough for us to do our at-home Marek's vax yet and we wanted to avoid contamination from the outdoors where all the wild birds play.

Our roost is a paint stirrer stick. They love it.
