I'd like to give the chicks a little stick to roost on

so what do i clean it with? i have tons outside i can use but hot water and dawn soap to clean/disinfect it? The babies are 8/9 days old.

This is for there indoor brooder... thanks!

I personally dont think the chicks will need a roost but it shouldn't hurt. And they might poop on it a lot so i suggest you clean it once a month with the water and soap and put plastic bins underneath the brooder where the roost is to catch the extra poop. they poop while they sleep.

I never cleaned any sticks before I put them in the brooder. They liked pecking at the loose bark and anything they found on it.

I wouldnt clean the sticks. The chicks will peckbat the bark and this could possible kill them if they ingest disinfectant

x2 to both those posts, i put a stick in there when they were about 5 days old, gave them something to do ya know. Never cleaned any of them.

We avoided it since they aren't big enough for us to do our at-home Marek's vax yet and we wanted to avoid contamination from the outdoors where all the wild birds play.

Our roost is a paint stirrer stick. They love it.
