Idea for dealing with political & armageddon threads

Quote:
I agree. Wouldn't it be nice if hot topics could be put on the wayside for forums who exist for that purpose. If you want guns, go to arfcom. Feel free to post poiltics there too. They won't put up with junk though and members will beat you down for things you say and I wouldn't bring your kids there. Just the way it goes, and BYC aims to be family friendly and inviting.

There are good reasons why religion and politics don't belong at BYC-the chickens really don't give a sh**!!!

It also does cause alot of anger between people who otherwise have alot in common and a good relationship on the board.

Religion is a Personal matter. You have yours , I have mine, don't sell me yours and I won't sell you mine.

Politics is a no no just because. People like to throw politics around to make others see how smart they are. Think about it.

Question?

Are you saying that you feel that attempting to discuss Current Events in the Non-chicken world should have no place on this board?

I'm talking the current economic crisis, how people are dealing with tough times, etc., not elections and political propaganda.

I can understand people not caring to discuss politics or religion... everyone has an opinion, and many times discussion degrades into name-calling, and bad tempers.

I'm just trying to understand what's "correct and acceptable" topics for this forum.

Thanks,
Kathy

Kathy, I think there's alot of non-chicken topics to be discussed on this board. Just like it's being discussed now. I think that a pg rated debate category would be okay, if given a little leeway. But for the whole, politics and religion seem to bring out the "snarling wolf" in people, LOL.
I still like reading threads going south. It's quite funny at times to see grownups spitting, biting, and pulling hair.

...and you know by tattling on your friends, you're really just tattling on yourself. By tattling on your friends, you're just telling them that you're a tattletale. Now is that the tale you want to tell? (movie quote)

...and on a side note, I'd much rather have a separate section for chicken poop than politics. Politics I can handle, reading about poop every 30th post I'd rather avoid...

As always, Bluey, you never disappoint! My laugh for the day!

I get tired of the poop threads also....I mean, just how many times can we discuss that same subject? If you have time to monitor chicken poop, I have a lot of chores that can keep you busy at my place!

Seminole - PG rated discussions are what I'm meaning as well. Take the two recently locked threads for example......

One discussed how "The Pundits" had finally gotten around to figuring out what most of us knew along time ago.... that we're in a recession at best, and the beginning of a depression at worsl.

The other was discussing how People Here were FEELING about everything that's happening.

With both threads, some people were attempting to educate others on the mechanics of how these things work, while others were responding in various ways. I learned a few things along the way as well.

Both could be catalogued as Current Events, but neither intended to be political or religious, and for the most part, stayed away from both.

I PERSONALLY didn't read anything in either thread that I felt (My Own Opinion, and nothing more) warranted locking the thread, but obviously, someone felt that the discussions were no longer valid.

That's why I ask: for information - where / how do you all propose to draw the line between Current Events, and Politics?

Kathy

My daddy taught me never to discuss politics, religion, or $e* in polite company, which this is. I try to follow that advice.

Thanks,
Kathy
