Idea for this section: Please post updates when chicks are older!!!

I love this section of BYC but I think it could be even better if everyone who posted pics and asked for help would come back and give updates once their chicks were fully grown. There are loads of old threads where people posted different opinions as to who's a pullet and who's a roo but looking back through them all, without a final report on who turned out to be what, they're not very helpful for newbie chicken sexers.

If everyone came back and posted a final headcount on breed and/or gender, maybe with updated photos too, it could really help everyone who uses this section. And I'd love feedback on whether my own pullet/roo guesses were correct. I love to look at the photos and try to figure out but I have NO IDEA AT ALL how good I am at it.

I suppose it depends on how much you post whether you have to wade through pages and pages to find it. I click on my own username then click on 'show all topics' and scroll through all my topic headlines. It might take a few minutes, but I think it would be worth the effort if everyone tried to find the time to do it!

I agree...there are many times that I'll see a chick that looks like one of mine, and would love to see what they turned into. And it would help as I try to learn to tell hen/ roos apart.

I'm going to update mine with week later pics, a little later on today.

Something I think that would also help is when we guess, we mention why we think that: comb and/or wattles color or development, pointy feathers, heavy legs, configuration, whatever.

Some are a lot harder than others, and I think it is more art than science, but knowing what to really look for can help people learn, plus give us a better chance for constructive criticm so we can learn too without waiting for later pictures.

I totally agree on putting your reasons for each choice too. So many times I look at a photo and scroll down through a dozen different replies that just say, roo, hen, hen, roo, hen, roo, roo, roo etc etc with no explanations WHY the respondents think that. And when the guesses are split 50/50 it's pretty hard to know what to think!!!

I wonder if a moderator could put a sticky at the top of the section asking everyone to please remember to come back and post final results? Maybe they already have! I better go look through the sticky that's there already and check! Or maybe we should just chase people up, look through all the old posts on here and ask people to let everyone know how their chicks all turned out...

I agree - but edit the original post subject saying something like "UPDATE 3/29 in original post" and post your update in the first post or say what page the update is on. It makes it a lot easier to get to!
