You can order fewer numbers and choose the sex of the chicks by ordering from mypetchicken.com. I only wanted 3 in my first order and 4 in my second. which isn't shipping till the end of the month. I just wanted females and that was what I got. In the second shipment I ordered one male.
I wanted to breed too. I read that you can get a red white and blue wyandotte from breeding Silver laced with Golden Laced.
All my neighbors have chickens but I didn't think I could deal with a bunch of roosters - occasionally, my neighbors let loose the roosters and we have a paintball park - so the patrons are told not to fire on any birds but often they are spooked by a rooster up in a tree. No one has shot at one but they fly off to the other neighbors and are probably eaten.
