ideal hatchery

I ordered 10 ducklings last April from Ideal. 7 Khaki Campbells and 3 Pekins. I was sent 4 Rhode Island Red roos as packing peanuts. 1 ended up actually being a hen, but the roos were so nasty at 8 weeks old that they had to go. I have heard that you can purchase "insurance" and they will only send you what you order.

* edited to add: They are beautiful ducks now and lay every single day! None of them has missed a day in over 3 months.

well any chicks we recieve will be quick to go.
we've tried large breed chickens and they are not ment for our farm.
bantams do fine tho.

I have nothing but bad luck ordering from Ideal...thats how we decided to start our own hatchery here on Maui.

Hezekiah you're the first person I've heard of that had bad luck with them. Maybe it's the distance? I live in texas <and the others I talked to about them have been in Texas or La> so I got mine literally the day after the hatched <not even 24 hours.> I ordered 3 cayuga females and one male, a self blue silkie and they sent like 10 Roos.. < I THINK they are either RIR or Production Reds or something. > I lost my male cayuga at a little over a week.... but that happens sometimes... I had almost ordered 2 males.... almost wish I had now.

I LOVE ideal - bought our geese (3 buffs - growing great) and our ducks all from them. Atwoods I get my chicks from gets them from them - over all they are the only place for my flock - I dont show and the birds are healthy and love to thrive.
