Ideal Poultry (Cameron Tx) Routing to Arizona?

Thats odd. Usually it takes IDEAL 2 days to get my birds to me in MT. But i think especially being in the south, it will be okay, or at least better than if they were delayed uo in the north where its still cold. Just bring water andngive them a drink asap
Don’t lose hope! I always go early to PO …mail arrives here at 7:30am so I sit at post office and wait! I only Live five minutes from the post office so I don’t take food and water with me but if you live further that’s a great idea to bring them water and get them going crank up the heat. I always get mine on time here also they’ve never been delayed. But these are different times I don’t know what to think about ordering to be honest. Let us know how it goes

Will do that, I'm glad I bought a heat pack to ship with them.

I live about 10 minutes from the post office. I'm going to use the heated seat in the car and add sugar to the water and use warm water. I think I'll delay the probiotics till a bit later to just get them drinking. I see they're at the Phx DC now, but our local PO doesn't have the number there, so they're probably not set up to have people pick up there. Waiting and hoping....

The water will be at home in the brooder, right? I think it is more important to get them home quickly, and not stop to give them a drink at the Post Office, since it's only a 10 minute drive.

Shipped chicks seem to want heat first, then water & food. So I usually see them huddle and peep under the heat lamp for a few minutes, then as they feel warmer they start walking around picking at everything to see if it's good to eat or drink.

Right. Water about 86 degrees in brooder with a little sugar in it . Will cover box with jacket to take to car and heated seat on way home. I’ll have lamp set for 95 plus. I’ll warm them before water especially if they’re huddled because heat packs probably aren’t meant to last so long

That sounds pretty good, except I wouldn't bother to cover the box with your jacket on the way to the car, unless you're walking through a blizzard or something like that. If the temperature is above freezing and not horribly windy, I would just carry the box and not fuss with it.

How many chicks are you expecting?

Hatcheries usually do a good job packing the chicks so their own heat keeps them warm, in a box that provides the right amount of insulation and ventilation. (Yes, sometimes it fails-- but most of the time it works well.)

As far as warming the chicks before they have water:
Have the water in the brooder before you go to the Post Office.
Sit the chicks under the heat lamp when you take them out of the box.
It's fine for them to drink as soon as they want.
If they aren't drinking within an hour or so, you might dip their beaks in the water to show them what it is. But they will probably have already figured it out in that time.

15 straight run assortment.and it’ll be about 30 degrees and 12 mph or higher winds.
Good deal about the water as I’ve never had them drink when I put their beaks in but never pasty butt either.

15 chicks is a good number :)
Very small orders are more likely to have trouble (because fewer chicks make less heat.)

OK, with those conditions, a jacket over the box might make sense as you walk to the car. I was assuming something a bit more pleasant!

The pleasant weather comes just before the 100 degrees 😊
And thanks for all your replies.
