Ideal Poultry Having Production Problems?

I've had a broody hen sitting for three and a half weeks on eggs we replaced regularly to keep from getting old enough to hatch, waiting for the day our baby Delaware chicks that we ordered from a local feed store would come in. Our plan was to go in to the broody's nesting area the night we got the baby chicks, and replace the eggs with the chicks in the middle of the night.

My wife went to the feed store today, and they apologized but said that Ideal has been having hatching problems and they did not get the Delaware chicks they had ordered.

Now we have to figure out how to bring our broody out of her broody funk without having eggs hatch, or else let her continue to sit on the eggs she is sitting on right now.

But in the meantime, can any of you tell me what is going on with Ideal Hatchery, that they could not deliver the Delaware chicks that the feed store ordered? The feed store said they were shorted turkey babies too.

I would contact Ideal directly. They are very helpful and willing to answer questions. I do know that last year was a high volume year for ordering chicks, I would imagine that this year may be the same. The "production" problem could just be they are getting a lot more orders than expected.

yea I dunno personally, the feed store here got everything they ordered for easter fine (turkeys, ducks(various breeds), guineas, and silkies(various colours)). I wound up getting a pair of silkies as an easter gift to myself but really wish I got some guineas to let run loose - I'm hesitant purely out of fear of them attempting to breed with my millies. X3

If you look at their website, many breeds say not available until.........May 2010....June 2010....2011. They have been busy. No production problem, just an overflow of new customers. Especially with ALBC suggested breeds like the Delaware and Buckeyes.

When I want something from Ideal, I place my order in January--february at the latest, and even then sometimes I get wait listed

If you want what you want, you gotta scope it out early. And I hate dealing with the feedstores. I cant tell you how many times Ive gone in there to hear "oh, it didnt come in." drives me nuts! LOL.
If you want Delawares, theyre pretty popular, I'd go on Ideals website and order some directly. Thats one of MANY GREAT things about Ideal--you dont need to order 25, you just order however many you want. Can you tell I love Ideal? LOL
