Has anyone ever ordered the Thai chicks from Ideal Poultry? If so, I'd love to see some pictures of your grown stock.

I tried to order some last year, but got royally screwed over. I told them the chicks I received did not look Thai. They told me they made a mistake and sent black shamos by mistake. Well, I wouldn't call the birds I received ANY sort of oriental. Period. They look like barnyard mutts. Most of them looked more like sumatras in body conformation than shamos. In fact, they may have sent sumatras, too!

That being said, I really would like to give them another chance to get my order right and send me REAL orientals, but I don't have much faith in the quality.

Do any of you have similar experiences or maybe even the opposite?

That my friend, i would STAY OUT of. If you want ORIENT CHICKS, you're better go to Craigslist or some local breeders. I've given IDEAL 3 or more chances and they ruin all of them on the ORIENT chicks. Must say that these chicks ARE NOT orientals. The first batch i order, all chicks DIE in matter of days. The second batch i rec'd, all survived, but none look like any ORIENT birds, they all look cross-over breeds between GIANT JERSEY's and Cubalaya's. The 3rd time and last TIME I order from IDEAL is HALF of the chicks survive but none looks like any chicks of the domestic or ORIENTs,...they look like, well, nothing of the orient. Here are my 3 batches that i order each:

First batch:
15 Straight-Run Shamo's (Dark Shamos)
15 Straight-Run Dark Aseels
15 Straight-Run Cubalaya
15 Straigght-Run Thailands
All die within the week (except two Cubalaya survive into almost adult-hood, but looks like nothing of the Cubalaya family--look like miniture Dark Leghorn)

Second Batch:
15 Straight-Run Shamo's (Dark Shamos)
15 Straight-Run Jungle Saipans
15 Straight-Run Madagascar
15 Straigght-Run Thailands
All shamo's live to adulthood, but looks like a Black Giant Jersey-mix and with feathers on feet. Two Madagascar survive into adulthood, but looks like a Americana-mix. The rest of the Madagascar's were given away to my neighbor and their dog got to their pens and (you know what happens when dogs get excited about pheasants). All Saipans live to adulthood, but they look crooked and weird,...looks like miniature dark cornish with spots. All Thailands live, but looks like BB-Reds with black feathers and spots (they are tiny).

Third and LAST BATCH FROM IDEAL:
15 Straight-Run Dark Aseel
15 Straight-Run Assorted Orientals
15 Straight-Run Red-Leghorns
15 Straigght-Run White Only Leghorns
All White Leghorns survive to adulthood and they look gorgeous, better than the pictures online. Red-leghorns survive as well and sold them all to my neighbor for his 4H project, he turn around and sold them for HIGHEST bidder. Half of Aseels survive, but look like banty-Olg-English game miniatures. Half Assorted Orientals survived and look like cross-breeds of silkies and who knows what kind.

To Summon things up,.....if you want ORIENTALS, go local and find a good local or go to Craigslist and start looking. All other standard breeds are fine.

Wow... good to know. I guess there's a reason they don't show photos of their birds.

I got good aseels from Cackle. Look very typey, and the one cockerel I kept gets along nicely with the other boys in my flock, as long as they back down or are big and mature enough to intimidate him

I bought several geese & ducks from Ideal last spring. The two runner ducks have the correct coloring but are shaped like a standard duck. A magpie duckling seized & died in my hands at about 2 or 3 weeks. Since receiving that order I have had numerous ducks sicken and die for no apparent reason. I won’t be ordering from them again.
