I too will order from Ideal again. Great service and fair prices.
A few things to take in to consideration when ordering chicks from anyone.
Season/weather: It may be lows in the 60s and highs in the 90's when you look out your window, but take a peek at where the birds are coming from and the path they might travel to get to you. If it is a blizzard in the mid west, or a storm between the hatchery and your home that can alter shipping, you can't really blame anyone for the weather. One suggestion is to order in late spring, early fall, when temps around the country are moderate so chicks don't freeze to death or over heat in transit.
Shipping: If you decide to order from a hatchery that is located 5000 miles away, those birds have to travel those 5000 miles to reach you. Perhaps consider trying out a hatchery which is 500 or even 1000 miles away. Might be a shorter less stressful trip. Once those babies leave the hatchery in the boxes, it is up to the delivery system to get them to you.
Mistakes: Hatcheries big and small have to work fast to sort thousands of birds, put them into the right boxes, in the right combinations, and get them in the truck for delivery. They literally don't have the time to carefully hold, inspect and woo over the babies as one could do if hatching a dozen eggs at home. From hatch to home in 72 hours is the goal, or the chicks won't even have a chance.
Reviews: When reading reviews, always keep in mind, a satisfied customer will likely tell a few, a dissatisfied one will often raise a storm and tell a dozen. If a product or service is used by billions every year, there are bound to be mistakes, especially in the peak seasons or off seasons where workers are overtaxed or seasonal workers are gone respectively.
