Ideal Poultry

Maybe the feedstore had tagged them.

As to vaccinations. . .is it necessary when you only have two birds? Now that I have them it's too late anyway, but should I feed medicated feed at times?

Only for the first few weeks is all I do. And then to starter grower. This has worked for me. As to vaccinations I have never done it and have old birds and new peeps. during this time I added to my chickens 3 times from Ideal and I have never had a problem.

Regarding those tags in your chick's wings - could it have something to do with the National Animal Identification System the government is talking about? Check out http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/savehobby.htm - go there and click on the "USDA's Mandatory Property and Livestock Registration" (or something to that effect. I would be suspicious....are they trying to "register" you without your permission or knowledge? Interesting article in any case....cool

Definately NOT the postal service. We are not suppose to open packages, unless inspection is warranted. We certainly would not attach tags to animals.

I've ordered a lot from Ideal Poultry over the years, and have never had any tags on my chicks. I'm new here. I was thinking of starting over again this year. Someone stole all of my chickens last summer in just one night. I was heartbroken!!! But for me Ideal Poultry was always the best to deal with:

well ive never seen chicks with wing tags.but im betting that they are tagged because they are roos.but i really dont know.

I ordered from Ideal. Got 31 chicks and they shipped 32 (one was dead when they arrived). It took 2 days for them to get here. We were surprised it took 2 days, since we're really close. But they are very healthy. Split the order with a friend. Then I was in Atwoods a couple days later and picked up some bantams there. The clerk is a friend and she told me theirs come from Ideal. Some of the chicks had tags on them. I didn't ask why, but will next time I see her. All of the chicks are very lively and growing so fast! I'll definitely order from Ideal in the future.

I got my order from Ideal last friday. Buff brahmas, light brahmas, RIRs, orloffs, aseels. I have lost 3 RIR chicks this past week, all in the same way. They lose thier appetite, get uncoordinated, end up spraddle legged on the floor of the brooder, and die. Any one else order any RIRs from ideal and have this problem? The rest of our chicks are growing good and look very healthy. Fist time owning any RIRs, is this a breed specific flaw maybe? inbred? genetic? Just wondering if any of yall have experienced this.

sounds more like they just sick or weak chicks.no breed of poultry as far as i know has bad chickens.if the chicks die theres a reason.such as the hatching eggs arnt top quality.

i picked up a RIR from my feedstore 2 weeks almost 3 weeks ago. the chicks came from ideal. he's doing great.

i told my son to pick a girl. the rir's starting to show it's boyness already. darn things a rooster! suffice to say, my son is not allowed to pick out chicks any more. LOL
