Ideal Poultry

Is anyone else having a problem with failure to thrive babies from ideal??? I was having great luck with Ideal birds and it all went down-hill! My last order was 30 rare breed pullet specials! Within 4 days I had lost 19 birds! They sent the replacements! They are 2 weeks old now and I have lost one every day for the last 4 days! Seems odd at 2 weeks old! The ones that die are very thin like they are not eating! The others in the shipment have doubled in size but they have not! Right at the end they are weak, closed eyes, gasping for air and pooping green! Minutes later they are dead! I know it's not me or my brooders because I hatch 12-14 of my own eggs every week and now have about 80 of them! None ever die after hatch! NOT ONE! The only babies that ever die are from these last 2 batches from Ideal! AM I THE ONLY ONE????????? this is w
this is what we are trying to tell you, Ours died in the first few days of being WEAK your first batch sounds like ours, Look at what you posted , you say at 2 weeks old they are getting SICK , gasping for air and pooping green, That is not what has happened to our chicks. our we lost in the first few days from being weak on arrival. Not once has anyone else said at 2 weeks they got sick with green poop and gasping for air then dying . Sorry but it really sounds like they caught something and I would think if it was from ideal we all would have the same thing happen which we have not.

Thank you Hideaway Haven and Cjwaldon for chiming in here! I new I was not the only one!!! Cj it sounds like you also ordered the"rare breed pullet special"! That is what I ordered that stinks! Apparently it was something in Ideal's SPECIAL birds that caused this! Unless your chicks caught it from my birds all the way in Missouri!

Don't think so!!! We have moved on to Estes and have 100 chicks coming from them tomorrow! We shallse how they do!!!

you quoted them as thinking they had Sick chicks, Not once did they say they had sick chicks that got sick at 2 weeks old after being healthy and all at once got sick with green poop ,gasping for air then dying. They did not say that, they said the same as us all they lost some the first few days on arrival from being weak not sick 2 weeks later. Your own quote (unless your chicks caught it from my birds all the way in missouri). If it was from ideal ALL of us would have sick chicks with the same symptoms as you describe. You said you hatch eggs you got from other people, Eggs and chicks from those eggs can contain airborn viruses and if you look up the symptoms it sure sounds like something that was brought in and spread through the air, clothing, shoes and all kinds of ways these germs and viruses latch on and infect chicks and eggs or passed from the hen to the egg to the chick inside. We all are trying to help you as You asked. I just wanted you to understand your chicks and ours do not have the same thing going on because if that was the case ideal would be flooded with calls and shut down by the npip people and health department to find out what their birds have.Call ideal and talk to them and see if anyone else is having this problem when their chicks reach 2 weeks old after being healthy. If they tell you yes please let us know so I can call to find out what's going on.

chickenprnces- google chicken diseases and symptoms, I did research on our symptoms and Their are a few that match what you described that is going on with your chicks, Most are highly contagious and are airborn, hen to egg then to chick , clothing, shoes etc. hens and their chicks from eggs can be carriers and never show any symptoms but pass it to others that are not infected. it's a sad thing that happens but it is very possible the eggs you got from other people could be the problem. Just because they are npip certified does not mean that the hens could be carriers of something else and even they may not have any idea they have carrier chickens. I myself am only trying to help you so you don't loose anymore chicks and keep the rest of your chicks from getting sick. I have ordered eggs from breeders and after the chicks are bigger and seem to have no issues moved them in with my hens and then a couple weeks later my hens got sick and those never did and that has happened to me. I have got 2 show birds from the crossroads show and a week later both died with gasping for air. I was lucky to have kept them both seperate in different building from my flock or I am sure I would have lost all mine. Sad part is I paid alot for those 2 birds, both from seperate people with npip certification papers. These things happen and happen to great breeders as well. This is just part of having poultry and bringing in new birds or chicks to the flock. I have my oxine coming in today because I after reading about it it will kill things even bleach will not. It's 200 times more effective than other cleaners, sanitizers. You can also put it in the chickens water to help them with disease. Even a fungus or mold spore can cause what you have described. I really hope you don't think I am ganging up on you, That is not what I am doing, I am only trying to help you find out and fix what could be going on. Best of luck with your flock.

it's a pitty about all those sick babies...

very sad, but she has about a hundred chicks in her basement from ages new hatched to 4 weeks , chicks from different places and her own so that is most likely the problem. And she has more coming from another hatchery.. I seen some of her recent threads on other forums where she she says all of this. . She should contact whomever she got the other birds or eggs from and let them know what's going on . Or it could be some kind of fungi or mold spore. She could have brought it back from tsc store on her clothing from another customer that was thier. This happens and is sad. Ideal chicks are not the problem. I wish her luck with getting her chicks healthy and better .
