Never said they said that, they didn't have to. You don't get MG one day from a negative test result. They either picked up breeders somewhere that had an outbreak or had one in their own flocks in the past.
A positive test result for MG would be a sick bird in my opinion. It's like someone living with a disease... they cope with it but never fully recover... except for the fact that in chickens, it's a contagious disease. At ANY time a relpse can happen and potentially devastate their production... but since Ideal gets their birds dropped shipped if they ever get behind in production, the customers never know if an outbreak has occured...Also in this case it's potentially being spread all over the country.
Fattie.. have you ever delt with MG personally?
Yes, a long time ago. My Polish tested positive even though none were sick and showed any signs of disease. These birds were already isolated from my other birds. The Dept of Ag said I had 2 options: kill all my Polish, disinfect/sanitizt their area very well, and not get any more Polish, or 2) never sell or buy any more birds, and dump feed into unproductive birds. I chose option#1. I burned the carcasses, and disinfected thoroughly, and upon final inspection and testing, all my birds tested negative. So far so good. I have to get them tested each year to keep my NPIP permit. I would never sell a sick bird (or a carrier) I would kill them first.
