Ideas for a “day pen”?

I am thinking of building a large “day pen” for my quails, like for on weekends when I am home all day, and can periodically check on them. Was thinking just have them on bare ground, and use metal fence posts and chicken wire for the sides and aviary netting for the top? Maybe secure the bottom layer of chicken wire with tent stakes or landscape fabric staples? I live in town so daytime predators are really just limited to marauding house cats which there don’t seem to be much of anyway.

Anyone else do something like this? It would be a large area like 6-8’ w x 10-14’ l roughly.

That sounds good! Seems similar to a chicken tractor. It would need a shady section and places for food and water, of course. If you have to flat ground, this should work.

Quail do not like change. They are happier with a permanent home rather than being moved around.

If you still want to do this, then you will want something with a smaller hole than standard chicken wire. Your smaller quail will be able to go through that.

They will also need shade and hiding places.

Thanks for the reply and addressing one of my concerns- i wondered about the logistics of moving them twice a week, as I could only really have them in there on weekends. I probably wont do this now, as one of my concerns was stressing/handling them too much
