Ideas for cabbage??

Easy way to use up cabbage is to fry some up. I just use chopped cabbage and onion. And I add any of the following that I have on hand; crispy bacon, green pepper, or sliced potatoes. So just fry it up in a little olive oil and butter. Once it starts to wilt down, I add some seasoning salt and pepper to taste. It's so yummy!

Do you have green cabbage only or red too? I love to chop up red cabbage, saute in butter, then add some vinegar and sugar at the end and cook up until cabbage tender. Add salt and pepper---yummy!!

I picked up a big stoneware crock and made homemade kraut.

YUM!

Recipe is on the canning book you pick up wherever they sell canning supplies.

I have the red cabbage cuz it looks soo purdy!!

These ideas are wonderful!! Thanks so much! Does anyone store/can/freeze for winter use?? And if so, how??

Google a recipe for colcannon. It's an Irish potato/cabbage dish. You could probably make everything ahead of time except for boiling the cabbage. Just mix it in and freeze it. It'll cook when you reheat it.

I chop up the whole head and put it in stir fry.

We make the same thing, but it's called Bierock in our family. An excellent way to make this is to cook the cabbage in think slices with slivered onions, salt and pepper in a little beer, mix it with some browned ground beef (we don't eat that so we substitute other things) and put it into a yeast dough. To cheat, I'll use thawed Rhodes frozen yeast bread, cut into smaller chunks and rolled out into squares, pinch along lines, egg wash and bake!

Yummmmmmmmmm!!! Look up Bierock and you should be able to find a recipe for the dough. There's nothing like this, and it's a fantastic meal you can freeze, even after baked, for on-the-go lunches, etc.

You'll be hooked.

Why is it that nearly all of my subscribed topics are from this forum? (as I subscribe to this one...)
