Wow - you are really to be admired for all that you are doing and I applaude you! The most important thing I forgot to add to my post is to never underestimate the power of POSITIVE thought and prayer. My personal motto is, "whatever doesn't kill me will only make me stronger." To the extent that you can, take away some of the stress and make your cutbacks as fun for yourself and your family as you can. Look at it as a challenge and not a chore if you can. Above all, you and your family are the most important thing and as long as you all are together and healthy, there is great strength to be taken from that.

to you - I just know you will rise above all of this and come out a tighter family unit for it in the long run!

you are def. not the only one struggling. I think you have gotten great ideas, I really like the welding stuff for your dh.

Possibly he could make nest boxes (like the metal ones they sell in the hatcheries/farm shops)

Or decrotie candle, lap holders, or how about nice brackets to hold up roosts, or nice metal sliding pop doors? or even a style of a feeder. You could probably make a cool unique watering system with thos nipples an a jug and a cool hand made hook to hang them...

or killing cones, really just about anything could be made.

Just a thought but I would put the welding knowlegs to good use if possible since it is a unique talant.

Walkway lantern/light holders are nice as well.

Are the boys old enough to work yet?

My 17 year old works part-time.

My 12 year old does not, but he will work for friends or relatives for money.

I had a job interview for a part-time job yesterday, so hopefully, I'll get good news on Monday.

I have 10, 11, & 12 yr olds who get paid cash on Saturdays to keep tables washed and floors swept at the local Amish Market. They are never too young to work, but you may have a hard time finding a place that will take them since they can't be 'hired' till 14.

great thoughts ..... our chickens are the kids money. egg sales buy their feed , straw etcetera. extra money all goes to the kids for their hard work. They learn that working hard is worth the effort and pays for itself in the end.

I would like more information on this, too. Will you please PM me with the info?

Thanks!!!

Dug out my machine and tomorrow after class I am going to start making some "stuff". Novelty potholders, baby blankets, trying some applique' bags etc., using stuff and materials I have on hand here. Anyone with ideas on things that can be made to try and sell or use for gifts please feel free to share. kids found a load of buckeyes and they have been sitting in the windowsill drying some people carry them for good luck any ideas what we could make with them? I know they are poisonous if eaten. Anybody come up with anything new over the weekend?

You are doing so much right now! You have inspired me! Thanks for that. I agree with the others on the welding ideas. Our neighbor welds things from scrap farm impliments like coils and discs, etc. and makes amazing things like dragon flies, sunflowers, roses, tulips, etc. I will take some pictures and put them on this afternoon for you to show DH. Maybe it is something he could do. My neighbor sells them at home and garden shows, and on ebay sometimes. He has sold one for $3000! The others have sold for between $300 and $800 each!!! They are really neat. He only uses things that he has on his farm or things his neighbors had in their scrap piles. Good Luck!
Where we live everyone has been going back to the barter system. We trade eggs for other things. My husband is a contractor and he trades his work for other items. It has really been amazing and you make some good friends. My kids have also started collecting pop cans and beer bottles for neighbors and the roads. So far they have got over $100!
