I need to expand our run so my girls have more space during the day. At this time it just needs to be daytime predator proof (we’re in CT; hawks, cats, dogs, maybe foxes). We have a large pile of wood partly in the way of a perfect rectangle and I am not sure how to make this run happen or what material. Over the winter we will use this pile of wood for burning in our wood stove. So next year I can expand to a much larger fully predator proof space. Their current run and coop are entirely enclosed by hardware cloth and this run would be attached so I can open their current run door for the day. Any ideas?

Without pictures,, its kind of hard to give detailed advice.
Can you make the run larger,,, and include the wood pile inside??? Then as you remove the wood during winter,,, just step into run to get some. When wood is gone,, you will have additional space.
A run can be any shape that is possible. Use chain-link fence for the sides. That keeps most predators you mentioned out. Bird netting will keep hawks out.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Here is a picture. Im sorry it’s such a bad one and my yard is a mess right now. The red circle is the current space I’d like to turn into a more permanent type of run they can access during the day. DH is building a larger coop (currently we have 3 bantams in this set up). I hadn’t considered enclosing the wood. It’s a good idea but I don’t think it’ll work. It’s very tall and the poop factor. The yellow line is where I’m having a hard time understanding how to build a wall. It would connect to the current run. The small tractor is not in use. The play yard we use to put our chicks in (supervised) and the black thing is a shade tarp I bought to try and give some hawk protection for our bantams. They only go out supervised.

Can you go on the other side of the coop and run?
Hmmm. That is a potential but there is no door on that side getting into the current run. It’s also where we keep our trailer.

Honestly I wish I could just get my husband to move the pile of wood. But as you can see it’s massive and moving it is no small project.

Still seems like a more viable solution....you can add a door and move the trailer and have more space, might be easier than moving all that wood.

I’ll propose this idea. It’s unfortunately also close to our property line. I’ll have to check to see if it’s within code.
